The girl in the kitchen is Dite's first you know. She's pissed at Gen because now she can't be the King's confidant/mistress, which she might have been if Dite had been successful in his proposal. See how I say that confidently, as though I know for sure, and am not just conjecturing wildly? I'm taking lessons from my oldest brother.

I think the Dite/tree ninja!Gen took place pre-chop, after TT, as it looks like most people think. It was calf-love in Gen's/Irene's/Helen's mind before, but switched to twue wuv later, but pre-chop, because as we all know CALF LOVE DOESN'T USUALLY SURVIVE AMPUTATION. Your Majesty.

I have to admit I did think maybe the whole Gen being sick was a ruse having to do with Costis and the Medes and and, and I think the whole issue of sand colic can fit in here. I'm pretty sure (have to check my references) that sand colic can be mild or serious, and can be reversed if caught early enough, and fatal if not. Perhaps TLE could tell us, although she doesn't live in the right area for it. Doesn't someone have horses in a desert-y area? Anyway. I'm putting a WHOLE LOTTA FAITH in Checkers' reassurances that MWT doesn't like books in which the dog dies.

And yes, foxes in the library instantly brought the vulpine comment to my mind. But...rabbits, lions, and foxes? Wha? Sounis, Eddis, and uh, Sounis again? Are there skunks (polecats, weasles) somewhere for Attolia? I are confuzzled, as I always am after reading one of her books only once.

The whole heart/hand comment I took to mean that Gen didn't have many true friends and Sophos was one of them. So Sophos could crush Gen by rejecting him, and Irene knew it, and mistrusted Sophos because of it.

Uh. Guess that's it.
