Despite my initial post-graduation plan of having a fantastic job lined up for me, I still have yet to find legitimate employment beyond my 35 hours a week at the YMCA.
Two days after surgery, I started receiving calls and e-mails of said fantastic job offers. The week prior, I interviewed with my YMCA for a position in the Communications department. After hearing nothing for the following three weeks, I received an e-mail from the Director, stating they were just kidding about that whole job offer, and my interview was basically a waste of time for everyone involved.
Three days after surgery, I had a phone interview with a YMCA close to Maryland for a Development and Membership Director position and I was supposed to visit on Election Day. The executive director practically told me the job was mine, and I set about sifting through Craigslist for apartments and calculating moving costs.
The executive director of the Women and Girls Foundation then called and offered me an immediate position as their Administrative Coordinator at $20/hour. I fooled myself into thinking that while this position holds no relevance to my degree or anticipated career path, it would be a good opportunity to work with the organization and network with other nonprofits.
I turned down the YMCA offer and agreed to talk with WGF about this position, which is now paying $15, with no guarantee of any job stability past January.
I got fucked over majorly, which seems to be a running theme in my life.
Then I received an e-mail last Monday to have a phone interview with the YMCA of Greater New York for the Director of Membership of the Staten Island branch. I was asked what days and times of last week would work for the interview. I replied to the e-mail when I read it on Wednesday, saying morning or early afternoon on Thursday and anytime on Friday would be fine.
I didn't receive a return e-mail, but I didn't expect one. Thursday went by with no call. I spent the entire day Friday, phone in hand, ready to pick up on the first ring. I've checked my e-mail religiously for the past three days, with nothing.
What the hell? So is this not happening now? Did I do something wrong?
Is this how people in New York work?
