So I started Esthiology school on Monday. Esthiology is the study of skin care, and through this I will be licensed to do body waxing, facials, body treatments, relaxing massages, and makeup. I couldn't quite say what made me decide to go into this field, besides the fact that I love working at Douglas J, I love Aveda, and I want to do what I love, not what I'm supposed to do. There is no way that I regret getting my college degree, I loved what I studied, but I am young and I have the opportunity to do something else right now and gain incredible skills, and so I will. Douglas J has given me a fantastic discount and opportunities; they've basically guaranteed me jobs for a while. I am very excited.
I am in school for 25 hours a week, and at work for 40. I work every day from 8:30-4:15ish and school is from 5pm-10pm.
I love that Ian works with me. I get to see him while I am there, and after school I get to go to his place, we hang out, and snuggle, and I usually stay the night. I like to be with him. He is very giving and wonderful. He's also very supportive of my pursuit.
I really really want to work for Aveda when I grow up. Do something awesome and involved for them. And I honestly believe that I can do that. I remember when I first started at Douglas J I realized that I wanted to be an asset to the company, and look at me now. I'm the Aveda Mentor for our location, I'll be teaching Connect Aveda to new employees, and I will be getting my esthiology license through them. I am on my way. Plus, with my degree and my experience with Aveda through the Salon, I know that I will be a great asset to Aveda when I am ready to move on.
My 22nd birthday is in less than a week, and it's weird that this is the least excited I've ever been for my birthday. I mean, I'm excited, but I have so many other things preoccupying me. I might be getting my own car this month? I essentially live paycheck-to-paycheck, and I have a bridge card for groceries. I essentially LIVE at Douglas J. I really hope that I can take the time to celebrate with my friends and my family for my birthday so that I can remind myself how awesome it is to be me and to have the amazing people in my life surround me.
I hope that the Esthi program will enable me to do a lot of self reflection, and that I will master the skills necessary to succeed in the salon and later in life. I feel extremely lucky for my situation. I also feel extremely lucky to have Ian. <3
