NaBloPoMo Day 7 - So. My taste in fic, fandoms and pairings is ... eclectic.

7. Share your favorite stories from your current fandom love(s)/ship(s). Tell us why they're amazeballs if you're so inclined.

I've shared a few of these before, but now they're all in one place as my Current Faves :D

The Kink Meme Made Them Do It by lunik_the_bard (Loki/Darcy, PG-13, ~15k)

ELLE: This is a series of comments on the THOR/AVENGERS norsekink meme community. Basically, this is kind of a the fic equivalent of breaking the fourth wall. It's a kink meme response fic that tells the tale of Loki and Darcy writing kink meme responses about themselves. It's HILARIOUS. AND THE BEST. Pretty much one of my favorite stories ever. (It is unfinished. I usually won't read something that's unfinished, but this is so worth it.)

The Consequences of Flight by winterbones (Captain Hook/Princess Aurora, R, ~22k) Summary: An innocent princess makes a deal with a bloodthirsty pirate. But no one here is what they seem, and all magic comes with a price.

ELLE: I don't even watch ONCE UPON A TIME, but 1) I'm a huge fan of Captain Hook (he's so dreamy), and 2) when I saw this graphic on Tumblr with a link to this story, I was sold on this pairing. I dig it.

Dawning Light by mhalachaiswords (Dawn Summers, Anita Blake, PG, ~157k) Summary: Dawn fell from Glory's tower and into the portal. Now she's all alone and scared... but sometimes family comes from the strangest places.

ELLE: I'm a sucker for a good crossover. This is a BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and ANITA BLAKE one. It was never finished, but it's still one of my favorites. The premise is very clever and unique, and the story is very, very well written. I also love Inevitable, another ANITA BLAKE crossover, but this time with HARRY POTTER. Anita takes Harry under her wing and it's awesome, and there's hints of Harry/Ginny and Harry/Luna.

Gallant by
crunchysunrises (Itachi, Sakura, PG, ~15k) Summary: On the day that he makes genin, Itachi sees Sakura. It changes the course of his life.

ELLE: I LOVE THIS STORY. It's one of those where the characters meet when they're babies/children, and that one difference is the ripple effect that ultimately changes everything. Also, this particular story is like my NARUTO fandom chicken soup fic. I read it when I need warm fuzzies. Crunchy has also written me a sequel to Gallant called On Paper Wings, which is also lovely. *warm fuzzies*

Invigorating by
crunchysunrises (Asher/Buffy, R, ~80k) Summary: Buffy leaps into Glory's portal... and lands in the Mississippi River.

ELLE: This particular one is another BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and ANITA BLAKE crossover. I would have never thought of Asher and Buffy working as a pairing and yet they SO DO in this fic. Crunchy really has a knack for Buffy's voice. She also has a great BtVS and IRON MAN crossover called Collision that stars Buffy and Tony Stark -- Not as a pairing. The summary says it all: Five times that Buffy runs into Tony, four conversations they have, three times Buffy admires Pepper's shoes, two times Tony offers Buffy a job, and the one time that she accepts.

The Paladin Protocol by SpaceAnJL (Sheldon/Penny, PG-13, ~91k) Summary: Every journey has to start somewhere. This one began when Penny found an alternative to paintball, and Sheldon dusted off an old skill.

ELLE: So. I was never really into THE BIG BANG THEORY fandom until I read this short essay about why Sheldon and Penny should be the canon pairing instead of Sheldon/Amy. Once my eyes were opened, so to speak, I was SO ON BOARD. I went out to find Sheldon/Penny fic to sate my insatiable fangirl heart, and this was the VERY BEST of the bunch. It's so very clever and cute and All Of The Things. *happy sighs*

Avalanche by Branch (Sasuke/Sakura/Naruto, R, ~166k) Summary: An AU in which all the character development of part one gets its due: Kakashi finds another way, Sasuke does not leave the Leaf, Itachi remains a villain, no one is a carbon copy of a previous generation, Sakura grows up to be terrifying, Sasuke finds his way back to family, and Naruto wins all hearts.

ELLE: This series is so good, so well written, so... EVERYTHING, that I consider it the NARUTO canon of fanfic in the same way I considered the Draco Trilogy the Harry Potter canon of fanfic. It's one of those epicly good stories that changes everything. It has a touch of romance between the three main characters, but it's definitely more plot driven than romantic. I love it so hard.

five ways it could have gone (and one way it did) by redtoes (Logan/Veronica, R, ~13k) Summary: Five Logan/Veronica moments where everything could have gone right but didn’t, and one moment where it did.

ELLE: I've not read a lot in the VERONICA MARS fandom, but I ship Logan/Veronica pretty hard and this came across my dash awhile back. So I read, and was really glad I did. Very well written and hits the spot for any L/V shipper.

Funny That Way by LuvaGoodMrE (Loki/Darcy, R, ~135k) Summary: Tony Stark had long ago accepted that his life was weird. Charmed and amazing - often terrifying - but weird. Still, this took the cake. It's not every day that he loaned out a guest room to a funny girl who got herself knocked up by the God of Mischief.

ELLE: The kink meme thread is epic by any fandom's standards, but this is by far my favorite full length Loki/Darcy story from the THOR/AVENGERS fandom. Pregnancy is usually not a fic trope I enjoy, but this story is so well written, and this story so well told, and the characters so spot on, that I liked it despite myself.

House of Crows by SilverShine (Kakashi/Sakura, R, ~400k) Summary: War is coming to Konoha and Sakura is far from home, uncertain of her future. But one thing is for sure, Sakura will protect her unborn child at all costs, whether it be from Konoha's enemies... or from its own father.

ELLE: This was the very first NARUTO fic I ever read. It kind of spoiled me. It's as well written as any novel -- better than most published novels, actually. If you wanted a great read, you don't really need to know the characters to enjoy this. It's very plot driven and dramatic and amazeballs, and just so well written that you'll probably enjoy yourself despite being unfamiliar with the fandom. I mean, I'd never read the manga or watched an episode of the anime and I loved this so much that I started reading/watching, and haven't stopped devouring NARUTO fanfic since.

And there are many, many more. It was hard to just choose these ones. I read A LOT in the NARUTO fandom and my tastes are most eclectic there. Many pairings I love that aren't represented in this selection are Sasuke/Sakura, Itachi/Sakura, Gaara/Sakura, Sai/Sakura, Kiba/Sakura, Shikamaru/Sakura, and some rare pairs. (I told you I'd read Sakura with just about anyone >.>) There's also a BUNCH of crossovers I didn't share and wanted to, but the list would have gotten too long. If you're curious, pretty much EVERYTHING by
crunchysunrises and mhalachaiswords is fantastic. I've discovered a lot of fandoms I've never read or watched by reading their stuff.

... Yeah. And sifting through all my faves makes me want to read them all again. Like I have the time for that. *coffs*
