Ahhh holidays.. you mostly elusive lady you. In a week and a bits time i will be heading off for country victoria near Beaufort to spend a week with friends, being silly, drinking much, imbibing bad things and dancing to some crazy music. zomgawd. and the youngest turnbull breeding. i wasnt sure i would see the day. only coz you have a bazillion nieces and nephews (okay mostly nieces) who i wonder if they may have babied you out in your younger years. :D
anyways i hope you have a great trip.
in japan...dont be afraid to go up to peeps who might know stuff ask ask 'do you speak english?' to get help going somewhere...and even if they dont try saying the name of the thing you want (eg what platform for namba?) and even if they say no to the do you speak english question sometimes they will give you a reply in english anyways!
it helps that you are white too - grace didnt have much luck..i think they expected her to be able to speak the language coz she was asain but if i went and tried with a big smile i always got some kind of response. :D
but generally japan is pretty easy to get around. if you have a japan rail pass - in tokyo stick as much to the yamamote line as you can coz you can just flash your rail pass at the people at the gates to get through and they will just wave you through.
