So, it'll be one week tomorrow since I brought Evan home...and what a week it has been. The first day he was fussy and wanted to nurse every hour!! I think he cried all day because everything was new for him. He'd spent the first 5 days of his life in the ICU unit, so the poor little guy didn't know what was going on. Anyways, this past week has been the most challenging and the most rewarding week of my entire life. Since I'm not working, I'm able to devote all my time to Evan. Breastfeeding was a challenge at first. In the ICU, he was given a bottle, so the transition from the bottle to the breast wasn't as easy as I'd hoped it would be. However, by Wednesday he'd caught on and now its second nature to him. I'm planning on strictly breastfeeding him for at least 6 months, but I'm hoping to go for a full year. We'll see. On Thursday, his cord fell off (yay!) and Friday I took him to the doctor's. I was going to have him circumsised then, but his doctor said to wait till next week when I bring him back in to check his weight. After the doctor's, my mom, Evan and I went to the mall where I got my paycheck and showed off Evan to my co-workers at the Disney Store. Then we went down to Motherhood Maternity and I bought some nursing tops. None of the clothes I own are button down nor do they make it easy for me to nurse him. I have to admit that maternity clothes and these new nursing tops are super cute!! On Saturday, my mom, Evan and I went up to Barnes and Noble where my seventh grade math teacher (he taught my brother in middle school too) was having a book signing. Evan was great!! He slept the whole time we were there and although there was lots of noise and commotion going on, he didn't budge. Today we just kind of laid around and did nothing. My mom and I gave Evan his first bath tonight. He fussed a little bit but he was good otherwise. After we finished bathing him, however, my mom handed him to me, still naked, and I wrapped him up in his bath towel...then he pooped. Only my kid would wait till he was clean and wrapped up in a towel to poop. lol So, I had to clean it up. But he slept like a baby...no pun intended...after his bath. My aunt came over for a little while tonight and held Evan while he was sleeping. Oh, and today Evan's birth announcement was in the local newspaper!! It was exciting. I guess that's about it for my first week as a mother. I have loved every minute of it...even the feedings at midnight, and at 2 am, and at 4 am, etc. I have no complaints about how my life has turned out. Being a mom is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I wouldn't want my life any other way. But for now, I must go nurse Evan...hopefully he'll sleep through the night. lol
