Nevertheless, God Bless The Philippines :)

With all honesty, I'm really disappointed and sad about the outcome of the election. It seems like my optimism just ran out, or I don't really like to act all happy about things. Let me put it to four points:

1. It has been a big popularity contest.

Admit it, people. It has always been a popularity contest from the start: From Villar's annoying jingles, Noynoy's fast ride to fame because of Cory's death to Erap (just about everything that makes him up is popular). It's sad how majority of the people treat the elections the way they treat PBB or any reality TV show that required votes. This is the future of our country we are talking about and not some big reality show. Basically, the people we elect in position will remain there for six years. Sadly, we can't vote them off the way we can't vote off contestants. What if all of a sudden those that are in power aren't so nice as we perceive them to be? Are we going to stage another People Power? You guys must be pretty crazy. Thank you for ruining a supposedly historic movement.

2. People who should have voted did not vote because the queues were insane.

That's probably the lamest excuse I've ever heard. I'd understand if they were cut off from the line because it was closing time already. However, not voting because of the long lines is just... I don't know, stupid, I guess. I know that's offensive, but it really is shallow. You could tell me that I shouldn't be annoyed because it is their loss, but that's the point. People keep on clamoring about their rights, but they just flushed it down the drain all because of long lines. It disappointed me more than the results, actually.

3. I'm looking at an all-star slate of newly-elected officials.

Hello. Bong Revilla's leading the Senatorial poll. Jinggoy is second, and in the top 12, Vic Sotto and Lito Lapid is included. Vic Sotto has done a lot, so I'm gonna save him some of my drama, but Jinggoy? Bong Revilla has done something about Katrina Halili's sex video case, but other than that, what has he done? Lito Lapid? And the fact that Erap is top 2 in the Presidential poll makes me shake my head in disagreement and disappointment. But I can't blame them, can I? I can't. It's the people who placed them there, and I can't blame the people either. They are prominent people; we see them always and we hear about them always. Plus, they are showbiz people. They were voted because people know them. And please, don't give me the just-because-they-are-artists-it-does-not-mean-they-don't-know-anything speech if you have any. I'm not being an ass here. If it makes you feel better, I voted for Alfred Vargas because I know he knows what he's doing, but that's another story.

Consider what they have done for us. Have they really proven themselves worthy of being re-elected?

4. People obviously want to repeat history.

BongBong Marcos in the top 12. You kidding me? Remember what happened to his dad? Sure he isn't like his dad, but think of the large amount their family took from the Philippines (which Cory failed to return). Erap Estrada as the next President? Thank you for ruining the essence of People Power 2. Noynoy Aquino? What did he do? I know that he has a lot of following and most of them are probably going to kill me for saying this, but really. What did he do? And remember Hacienda Luisita? Think of the many lives lost there (14 is many already, shut up).

But who am I to change things and have it go how I want it to be? I'm only one out of less than 50,000,000 voters in the Philippines. I'm sad and disappointed, but there's really nothing I can do. The numbers have spoken. I guess the consolation for me are the support that the candidates are showing to their competitors and the fact that they aren't being sore losers (just like me I guess haha!). Even if the turnout of the elections wasn't how I wanted it to end, I don't think my vote was wasted. I voted for the people I want to be in the government and I made my vote count. That's enough for me (but it would've been better if Gibo would be the next president, tbh haha). And I think the polling is going to be final by tonight, so whoever wins, wins. As a Filipino, I'd do my part and support the new slate of officials and I'm still hoping that the Philippine economy would boost.

I'm sad. I still love this country, though. :)

P.S. If you're wondering why I'm not blaming the PCOS machines for what happened, well, they are machines. And it's our first time to do this, so I kind of expected that there would be errors. I want to commend the teachers who participated, and the OICs placed by the COMELEC in each of the precincts. They have served this country well. :D Good job!

growing up, i love philippines, numbers numbers numbers, sino ang tibak?, life
