I'm useless.
My main computer died a while back -- that's one of the reasons why I haven't posted here in a while. (The other reason was a serious gum infection caused by a cracked tooth; I only really got over that in the last week or so.)
I bought all the parts to build a new computer two weeks ago... except that it turned out that the case I bought was too small for the cooling system for the CPU. So I had to leave the side of the damned case open... and even when I did that, Windows refused to install. The system would power up, it would start reading the install media... then after a few seconds, the damned thing would just freeze.
I figured I'd just have to disassemble and reassemble everything, but I bought a larger case first, so that the cooling system wouldn't be hanging outside the box. I finally got that late last week, and I spend a good sized portion of this weekend just moving the bits from the old case to the new one. The process was complicated by the fact that I somehow misplaced the manual for the motherboard, so I had to download a PDF copy from the manufacturers web site... and my laptop kept going to sleep on me while I was trying to read the damned thing.
I finally get all the bits and bobs together, I plug the damned thing in... and then I can't find the "ON" switch... and by this point I've misplaced the manual for the case, so I have to go online to download a PDF copy of that, too. (The case manufacturer put the "ON" switch on the side of this thing, which is why I couldn't find it. Not the top or the front, like every other major manufacturer: THE FREAKING *SIDE*!)
So when I *FINALLY* find the "ON" switch on the new case, I push it... and absolutely nothing happens. No lights, no sound, no movement... nothing. At least the thing powered up in the old case, even if I couldn't install Windows... but now the thing appears to be even deader than before.
I'm out over a thousand dollars, and right now all I have is a fucking paperweight.
