so. i walk out to the mailbox today and inside there's an envelope from sarah lawrence. i tore it open right away, because i figured it was my first year studies assignment and i've been really excited to find out what they gave me, because all four of the courses i requested were really cool and interesting. but i find that they have assigned me to a course that i did NOT request and that i really have no interest in concentrating on for an entire year. we only take three classes at slc and the first year studies course is kind of important because the prof ends up being your don for the rest of your four years there. all of the mailings that they sent us stressed that we should only select courses that fascinate us and that we'd be excited to spend a year studying. i have NO interest in the two world wars, and i certainly don't want to devote a third of my schedule to it. so i immediately called up the school, and the lady totally blew me off.. she connected me to a voicemail system that asked if i wanted to leave messages for a bunch of random people i've never heard of.

and i'm fucking pissed. i feel like they're totally dicking me around. i sort of got the shaft on my housing assignment (i got the exact OPPOSITE of what i had asked for) but i learned to live with that, because housing isn't that big a deal. but now i feel like they're blatantly ignoring everything i'm sending them. this letter is such bullshit: "I want you to know that the matching of a particular student with a particular Studies course and don has been a thoughtful and deliberate move on our part. We have tried to see that the assignment not only relfects one of the choices you made on the selection form, but also responds to your concerns, interests and learning style as indicated by your application." there is NOTHING on my application that indicated that i have any interest in american history and i did NOT choose this course.

now i feel like a brat. but the reason i chose slc is that i thought i would be able to spend lots of time learning about the things that i want to learn about. and i figured that since it's such a small school i wouldn't have a problem tailoring my curriculum to my interests. that's the main selling point of this fucking school. and if i can't do that, i might as well have gone to one of the "better" schools that accepted me.

whatever. i called the school back and a different lady told me that the studies department closes in the afternoon so i should call back on monday. if i can't get this fixed somehow i'm gonig to be really upset. actually i already am really upset.
