Some nights, when he was alone in the dorm, curtains pulled around his bed, Regulus would quietly wish he'd been placed in Gryffindor. The hat had definitely 'hmm'ed before calling out Slytherin and Regulus knew that when you were old, like the hat was, hmm could mean much more than just a pause. Maybe it got it wrong.
Maybe then Sirius would still talk to him.
Maybe then he'd have the kind of friends Sirius had.
Maybe then Remus Lupin would notice him, the way Regulus would notice Remus.
Regulus knew it was hopeless. He'd still just be Sirius' brother.

Regulus didn't even know where Sirus had gone when he'd stormed out of the house.
To James', maybe. He was his best friend.
To Remus'? Regulus knew there was more than friendship between them.
Sirius had been his, he'd loved him first, but lately it hadn't been his name Sirius would murmur, fingers clenched tight in Regulus' hair. Regulus pretended he didn't hear but he couldn't help noticing he wasn't allowed to kiss his brother anymore.
"But I love you, Sirius," he'd told him softly. "We're brothers. We love each other. Right?"
Sirius hadn't answered.

James groaned, squeezing his eyes shut, clamping his hands down over his ears and starting to sing at the top of his voice.
Sirius ignored him, moving in closer and pressing his mouth to Remus'. His lips always felt so soft and tasted so sweet. It was the kind of kiss that made Sirius' toes curl. He felt Remus' tongue in his mouth, gentle and unsure, and slid a hand up to his neck, deepening the kiss.
He ignored James' hollers and leant his forehead against Remus', eyes locked.
"I love you," Sirius whispered, kissing him again.
