Preserve, Tuesday Night

In a clearing in the woods, a haughty fairy and a squirrel faced off. The fairy looked bored; the squirrel declaimed in an angry series of chitters.

"So you miss opposable thumbs," Lucinda said, for the 17th time. "Yes, of course, that's very sad."

More chitters. "And it rained on your fur? Oh, poor dear, really." She didn't sound as if she meant it. "So are you ready to be a girl again?"

The squirrel let out a sulky series of squirrel noises.

"No, Ella, I shall not lift the curse. Not now, not ever. But I do think you've learned this lesson." She waved a hand through the air, and Ella stood where the squirrel had once been, quite naked.

"Clothes," Lucinda said with a giggle, and cloth shaped itself around Ella even as she thought to cover her nudity. "So long. I hope you'll be a good girl."

Then she was gone in a cloud of pink.

"At least it wasn't an order," Ella said in a snit, starting back toward the dorms.
