Hey, rhiannonhero; I know I asked for a "Five Things" prompt, but, um, you only get this one thing tonight. *frowns* I owe you...four?

Five One Time Luke and Noah Got Interrupted

PG-13, 950-ish words. Schmoop?

“-and I’m hardly even gonna get to see you anymore.”

Noah pinned the box of CDs against the hallway wall with his left hand and hip, leaving his right hand free to dig through his pockets for his key. “Okay, now, that was totally whining.”

Luke stuck out his lower lip in an exaggerated pout. He plucked the key right out of Noah’s hand and unlocked the dorm room door, shouldering it wide open to let Noah through.

Luke looked around the tiny room in mock horror. “You’d honestly rather live here than with me?”

“Don’t be such a snot,” Noah laughed, setting the box onto one of the extra-long (but not extra-wide, he thought sadly) dorm-issue beds. He reached out and grabbed the hem of Luke’s shirt, hauling him close and putting his hands on Luke’s waist. “And I never said I didn’t want to live with you,” he muttered into the warmth of Luke’s neck. “I just said not yet.”

Luke sighed deeply. “But there’s so much room out at the farm. We could be together every night,” he breathed softly. The sensation of that warm breath on Noah’s ear promptly rerouted what felt like the majority of the blood in Noah’s body southwards.

“Plus,” Luke whispered, the tip of his tongue dancing over the soft skin under Noah’s earlobe, “you wouldn’t have to share a room with some guy you’d never met. It’d just be us.”

Noah put a hand on Luke’s chest and pushed him back a half-step, snorting a laugh. “Yeah, us. Me, you, and your grandmother.”

Luke swatted at Noah. “It’s not like she’s around much,” he offered, his face dimpled up with a teasing smile.

“And she’s the only person who hangs around out there.” Noah started ticking off names on his fingers. “Oh, except for your parents, and your sisters, and your brother, and -“

“Okay, okay, your point is more than made,” Luke laughed. He grabbed the back of Noah’s neck, pulling him in for a quick kiss. “Anyway, we’ll have weekends together, right?”

Noah felt his eyes light up at the thought. “God, yes.” He glanced over at the door. “Either at the farm or here, depending on this roommate thing....”

There was a clattering noise right before the door banged open and a tall guy with hair an unfortunate color of red more or less tripped through it.

“Hey,” he said, dropping his bag to use as a makeshift doorstop. “I’m just gonna drop off some of my stuff, d’you care which side you take? I don’t, so whatever you want is fine with me, just shove my crap out of the way or whatever, there’s not that much really.” As he talked, he made a couple of trips between the nearest bed and a decent-sized pile that rested right outside the doorway.

“Most of my stuff is over at my girlfriend’s place, she’s got this sweet apartment on Baker with a bunch of her friends - I was gonna ask if maybe you wanted to go over there with me and get to know them, I know at least one of them puts out, but, uh.” He stood still and quiet for a second; Noah thought that it seemed like a profoundly unnatural state for him.

The red-headed guy’s face split in a huge grin. “But it kind of looks like that’s not your thing. Which is cool, no big, like I said, Julie - that’s my girlfriend - she’s got a place, and she’s got her own room this year, which is awesome. Not the room, I mean, that’s really small, but it’s a single, you know? So I probably won’t be around a whole lot - hey.”

He paused to dig around in his backpack, then stood up and held out a small card. “It’s my cell. I don’t want to be a shitty roommate just because I’m, like, not planning on being here all that much, so if you need something, give me a call, I’m your man. Oh, hey, I’m Chad, by the way. Chad Harper." He frowned briefly. "Which one of you is my roommate, anyway?”

Noah waited a second to make sure the flow of words had stopped. “That’d be me,” he said. “Noah Mayer.”

“Cool,” Chad grinned. “Good to meet you, Noah. Maybe we can get a beer sometime, unless you don’t drink, that’s cool, we could totally do something else, shoot hoops or something?” A car horn beeped from the street outside. “Oh, shoot, I gotta go, Julie’s waiting, we’ve got a room to break in, you know?”

Chad shoved the last of his boxes into the room, leaned over to grab his backpack, and swung it up onto his shoulder. “Noah, like I said, good to meet you, and you too, um....” Chad looked at Luke expectantly.

“Luke,” Luke offered. “Luke Snyder.”

Chad nodded. “Good to meet you too, Luke. I guess I’ll see you guys around, like I said, most of my stuff is at Julie’s, but I’ll probably stop by in a couple of weeks or something, you know, laundry or whatever. Anyway. Catch you on the flip side, huh?” And with that, he settled his backpack more firmly on his shoulder and took off.

Noah hadn’t moved from the spot he’d been standing in when Chad had entered the room. He turned to face Luke, who was already staring at him with his mouth slightly opened.

“Was that,” Luke began, his voice low. “Was he for real?”

Noah blinked twice. “I guess so?”

They stood staring at each other for a good five seconds. The corner of Luke’s mouth twitched. A choked sort of noise found its way out of Noah’s mouth. Then they were on the floor, nearly flattened with pent-up laughter.

“Dude,” Noah managed to wheeze.

Luke wiped a tear from under his eye. “You know?”

They laid next to each other on the floor, staring up at the ceiling as the giggle fit died down.

“He seems like a nice enough guy, though,” Noah said.

Luke hummed in agreement. “Yeah. He does.”

Noah turned his head to face Luke. “So. Looks like this dorm thing isn't going to put a huge strain on our, uh. Quality time.”

Luke moved like lightning. One leg went between Noah’s thighs, an arm draped itself over Noah’s chest, and Luke’s face hovered directly over Noah’s, eyes fastened on his mouth. "First of all," he said, dropping a kiss onto Noah's lips, "I cannot believe that 'quality time' is your euphemism of choice."

Noah rolled his eyes, straining upwards in an attempt to get at Luke's mouth again.

"Secondly," Luke went on, "I'm still very concerned about you and these dorms."

Noah made a confused sort of noise, and Luke gave him one of those promise-filled wicked grins. "You're going to be all by yourself so much of the time," Luke murmured. "Someone's going to have to make sure you don't get lonely."

"Oh, absolutely," Noah agreed, and they got to work breaking in his dorm room.

Kind of a tacky ending, but there you go.
