Japan ;_;
So, for the past two days I've been almost constantly either watching TV, checking Twitter, LJ and Yahoo for more news on the disaster in Japan (listening on the live feed on Nico right now), after the 8.9 earthquake and 10 meter tsunami that hit North-Eastern Japan yesterday morning (afternoon there). There are over 600 confirmed deaths (646 at the moment I'm writing this), over 2000 disappeared, an extremely lot of damage and there was also the threat of nuclear radiation because of problems at the Fukushima Nuclear Plant. And as far as I can tell, it's far from over. There are still aftershocks as big as 6 on the Richter scale and the threat of bigger ones to come and of tsunamis and it's going to be a while before the plates settle and everything calms down (as much as it can at the moment).
I was absolutely horrified when I saw images and videos from different places there. It was like snippets from a horrible nightmare. The biggest earthquake I’ve experienced was a 6.9 one at the end of May, 1990 (and it wasn't even the biggest in our country). Though I was only three back then, I do remember things falling from the shelves, breaking while my aunt tried to keep calm so that I wouldn’t panic and cry. This is… on a whole different level than that back then. The images of cars and entire buildings being swept away by the waters will haunt me. As will the videos of people trying to hold on to their lives (either in offices or on the streets). It is nothing short of a tragedy. Yet the Japanese people are strong enough and united enough and disciplined enough to immediately and properly react to the disaster. And I love them for it. They will be alright. They will rise again like the sun.
To the people of Japan, you are in our prayers. Stay strong.

On a more… personal level (if I can even call it that)… In the fandom part of Japan… there are still persons that have yet to be confirmed alive…
