Hallelujah!!! POWER!

Nov 17, 2007 18:08

Greetings!

Hallelujah! Our power is back on! *dances like crazy with ALL the lights on and the heat blasting to dispel the chill that seems to have settled in* Hurrah! They reconnected all of us last Thursday. There was almost dancing in the streets, I swear.

The Halloween party I went to was beyond awesome! Everyone's costumes were amazing, I was in awe! Mine wasn't too bad, in my humble opinion, but it wasn't really a costume. Just the native dress from a different culture. I went as a Hindu girl from India. I got to wear my new peacock blue sari (also spelled sarree, saree and sarie) with all my nifty new accessories, including earrings I made myself! *self satisfied grin* Plus an awesome mang teeka, bindi, eye corner sparkles, and a gold nose dot. Got lots of compliments on it and was worried that I wouldn't be able to fit out the door with my swelled head!

It seems so strange that the university is on Thanksgiving break already. I haven't put away the Halloween decorations yet!

My chum Bri invited me to a group that meets on Thursday nights that they call 'Stitch 'n' Bitch' or 'Knitpicking' since what we do is gather together, do our hand work like knitting, cross stitch, crocheting, embroidery, you name it and chatter about whatever. I'm still a newcomer, but so far it seems fun. What makes it cool for me is the age range that is present. It's not just grannies, but single young women like me and Bri, some young new wives, successful middle aged business women, and even a few soccer moms. I like the diversity.

After the power finally came back on, the house looked an absolute nightmare in the light of day and with the aid of all the lights. I sat on the dusty couch and felt overwhelmed for awhile. O_O; Then I buckled on my resolve, strapped on some gumption, and tackled the mess that was the house. It looks much better now. I still have to obliterate some mildew that thought our place was their place, but other than that, it's almost back to normal.

It has been raining almost constantly for two weeks. I am glad for the moisture for the land, but it makes for lottsa gray days.

I feel like posting a pic...*goes off to search for a random picture* Forget that! I'm gonna put on vid instead! This is a clip from the dance tour called Belly Dance Superstars. Rather a...well, not as cool a name as I'd like for an awesome group of ladies who are on tour and sharing the many different types of belly dance with the world.

The first part of this clip is what is called Tribal Fusion, which originated in San Francisco of all places. Fusion, as the name suggests, a fusion of belly dance with other types of dance from all over, and there are TONS. (There is Chinese Fusion, Hula Fusion, Street Belly Dance Fusion, Indain Fusion, etc.) Tribal is a little darker, more sinuous and kind of snake-like in its movements. Very snake charmer type.
One of the three ladies in the beginning is Rachel Brice (the one with the tattoo on her tummy), a QUEEN of tribal dance and who I am in awe of. She's got amazing control.

The second part of the clip is, well I guess you'd call it bellywood. *giggle* Those of you who have seen Indian films from 'Bollywood' will recognize this energetic and charming dance style. It's so very upbeat and cheerful! Check out how professional these ladies are! All their extensions are the same and they are smashingly on time. It's just way awesome.

Take care everyone! Have an excellent Thanksgiving break and holiday! And for those of you who don't live in the states, and don't have Thanksgiving Day, I hope your week is wonderful! Be safe, everyone.
