I MEANT SNOWBOARDING.
In my province we have a long weekend, but it's only the third year that we've gotten this holiday. Everyone is still trying to get used to having a long weekend around Valentine's Day. So, the husband and I took a romantic getaway to a local ski hill about 4 hours away (really, it goes into a valley, but we're in the middle of the prairies. You can't expect much).
He has gone snowboarding a bunch of times before, and while when I go to the mountains I usually ski, he suggested I learn to snowboard. I have bad knees, and so when I do go skiing, my knees usually look like footballs by the end of a weekend. So, for the very first time, I went snowboarding.
It's said that learning to ski is SO much easier to start, but much harder to master. With snowboarding, it's wicked hard to start but much easier to master. Well, I have first hand experience with that. The first day, I barely got off the ground until after my lesson, and even then it was sketchy. The second day, I took another lesson, and by the end I was able to get down the hill... mostly. Either way, I'm feeling pretty good about myself! I tried hard, and kept getting up.
Of course, I did fall a lot. And I really mean a lot. I have a LARGE bruise on my right butt-cheek, and on Sunday, it was swollen. Did you know that the butt muscle could swell? Now you do. We were in the valley on Saturday and Monday, and on Sunday I was in so much pain I was limping.
Meanwhile, I had an awkward conversation with a coworker when I got back into the city; I ran into her while buying milk on the way home.
Coworker: So, did you have a good Valentine's Day?
Me: Oh, it was so good, but my ass is really, really sore.
(beat.)
Me: ... I went snowboarding for the first time! Not... I mean... SNOWBOARDING!
Heeheehee. Whoops?
The rest of the weekend was taken up by watching the Olympics. Oh, the boardercross was SO CLOSE! I'm still SUPER happy with Silver. GO, CANADA, GO!!!
