if you can draw diagrams on your blackboard hands
to shift the girls' imaginations down into thundering rifts
spatter your slideshow face with starlight
to evoke the orbit of their vast distant thoughts, while
semesters subside and slip along time's fault and their ignorance rebounds
as they brush away the meteors
whining by their ears
if you can weave spirals with your scale-model body
to whirl the girls into cataclysmic comprehension
teach the shape of disaster with your worldmap self
to stoke the blazing of their deep dormant thoughts, while
seasons surge and scatter in the gusts and gales of their growing up
and they harden inward
against their own worldmaking fire
then chart for me the epicenter
the impact crater
the hurtling vortex
of your pyroclastic presence
so i can say without this heavy weather
i have a friend
she teaches science
