Why I love China, by Justin Puig

So I've been to several halloween parties thus far, a few more being in the works the next 2 days, and I realized one thing, this holiday season is all about showing off. First there's Halloween, who has the best costume, who has the scariest story, who's got the best haunted house? It's all competition. Then Thanksgiving we pretty much gloat to the native americans, "Thank you for this wonderful feast and bountiful land to share with our loved ones and friends and thank you for...WHoa there Tonto where do you think you're going? That's right get back to Oklahoma...anyway where was I?". And then there's Christmas, with it's who's got the coolest presents, who's got the prettiest christmas tree, who has the best nativity scene, what's a Channukah, things like that. The worst perhaps being the decorations. Now dont get me wrong, there's nothing I love more than christmas time and being able to drive around or walk around and look at all of the great decorations and feel the spirit of the season. It's seeing these wonderful holiday displays months in advance that somewhat irks me. I see reindeer and nativity scenes with white, red and green lights around town already. It's like some sort of really happy foreshadowing. "Dont be sad you're costume sucks, come join us in the future, where we celebrate christmas in october! Eggnog?" Havent we learned anything from The Nightmare Before Christmas? Holidays, like hard liquor and mexican foods, should not be mixed! I mean, I can understand christmas decorations at halloween, but only if you're horribly afraid of santa or the christ child. Cant we just cut back on the one-upmanship for once and just being communistic for the holiday season? I'm pretty sure it'd all work out for the best, besides, red IS a christmas color...
