Day 3: My Parents

Jul 25, 2010 05:38

I am lucky to have a pretty close relationship with both of my parents, probably more my mom then my dad.
My mom is a recovering drug addict/alcoholic and has been clean since right after I was born. I have gone to NA meetings with her since I can remember and I have learned a lot about the disease of drug/alcohol addiction, and heard a lot of stories. I am so tremedously proud of her, without her will to quit I wouldn't have the amazing mother I have today. We regularly go to concerts together, travel a bit. It is so much fun. She is a big reason I love my job, and want to continue my career in psychology. I want to learn more about the disease, and help people learn how to cope, and give them hope as well.
My dad is very hard working, he's always been the major bill-payer, and constantly working on projects around the house. That is a big thing I look in a significant other to this day. He has shown me how a man should treat their lady, in most ways. He is always there to help me with car troubles, or to fix things I don't understand how to fix, haha.
I am grateful to have parents that are still together, and so accepting, caring, and supportive. I love them both so much, and cherish all the time we spend together.
