on saturday i went to the asian art museum to see the 18th century kyoto painters exhibit. it was really beautiful, i am glad i had the chance to see it before it left. there was an art area set up where museum-goers could try their hand at creating traditional ink paintings on rice paper, and i made a second grade attempt at it. i painted the japanese symbols for harmony and equality, and felt giddy and happy, sitting and drawing in the grand old building. after my museum afternoon, i met up with justin, and we spent the rest of the day at japantown, dining off sushi boats, stationary shopping, and happily perusing the bookstore. i purchased a folder with bouncing, shaking, steam buns on it. they are shouting something in japanese. its quite possibly the most ridiculous thing i have ever seen, and i love it.
speaking of japantown- there is a possibility that it might be sold, and turned into a regular old mall. *shudder* this is a horrifying idea, for japantown is one of my, and many others i know, favorite places in the city. i probably spend at least a 1 or 2 nights per week there. it is a wonderful, unique place, with the best noodles in town, a delicious bakery, and one of the more interesting bookstores. there are also countless other shops that i love and that would be displaced if this real estate take over nightmare were to come true. if this outrages you as much as me, go sign this petition-

after japantown, and a bit of resting, we went to the blue cube for a psy trance party/beat the cancer benefit. the music was AWESOME, and the dance floor was packed to the gills. i have not experienced a dance floor like that in a long time. the energy in the room was palpable. we had a great time dancing (or at least trying too, the floor was too crowded for comfortable movement) and eating (and being confused by) pizza fries. when we left at 430am, the party was still going strong. we then went to my house and enjoyed bedland.
the next day, we had planned to meet amy for a day of picnics, tide pooling, and hot tubs. the rain ruined our plans (amy!!! when is the next good day for tide poolin'??), so we dove back into bed until 6pm. ah, yes, sleeping the day away. lovely. when we rose from our slumber, we went to my moms house to watch the closing ceremonies of the olympics and eat pizza. while not a sports fan, i ravenously enjoy the olympics. i was hoping for a closing montage of wonderful olympic highlights, but instead was given a paltry half screen 30-second montage. bah! I NEED A MONTAGE! after going back home, we settled into bed to watch abre los ojos, which was really great.
i intend to be at animate tonight.
