Oh man, every time I step into my room, I get so pissed that I have so much stuff, and then pissed again at the stuff I have. Obviously, books are to be kept, clothes are to be tossed, but mainly, I have got to get rid of all of the junk that accumulated through high school and college with memories or whatever attached that have made discarding it impossible. I have a huge stack of photos and things sorted out to trash, and I got rid of some yesterday, but it's really hard to get rid of anything that I can imagine potentially regretting even a tiny bit, which is dumb, because I've really never regretted anything I've thrown away in my life, even "sentimental" items.
I'm looking forward to boxing everything up, then going away for a year and getting by without a roomful of useless things, then throwing it all away without a second thought. Maybe with photos and things put a few into an album or a box, then out with everything else. Who needs a bunch of badly taken pictures of the Epcot ball or kids from my class I don't even know, or of old summers, or the flash-lit backs of people's heads? If any of y'all want to do a pretentious yet ultimately moving "low/found/dumpster art" installation where you use a bunch of people's ridiculously banal shitty-quality photos from the last ten years, let me know and I'll send you a box full. You can give it a name so bad that it crosses the line from maybe bad? into really, genuinely stupid, like maybe "Fade to Trite," so that a bunch of hipsters would hit it up. God, I bet it's been done so many times-- I'm probably stealing the idea from some album cover I saw at WXYC or on pitchfork.
