so here it is. my stupid review of my time in Reading!! whee!!
Thursday
wasn't so much spent at the festival but with the lovely laura and her friends! we did make an appearance to say hello camp funk (we were camp funk and we were awesome! hoffen!!!) and drop stuff off to properly festivalise in the following days :0) we did a bit of mooching and stuff and got all ready to go to PoNaNa! (po na na na naa) which was cool, i have a feeling they had different djs or something from normal coz it didn't seem extremely fat-poppadaddy-esque but never mind! and we went back to one of laura's mates as well which was in the middle of nowhere lol! but cool nonetheless :0) lots of intoxicants lol
Friday
woo! festival day!! got up stupidly early and it took ages to get there but SOOOOO much fun. caught up with CAMP FUNK (whee, gonna put flag pic up on myspace or somewhere) and i saw the following bands:
Dashboard Confessional - they were AMAZING i'd waited a while to see them and although they didn't play many songs that i knew, they performed with loads of energy and his voice was spot on
Panic! At The Disco - lol panic were great, the lead singer got knocked out by a bottle quarter way through their first song, but he was great he got up and they played the rest of the set, which was cool coz they coulda gotten up and said "you're all a bunch of wankers" and walked off. but yeah they played all the favourites which was cool!
Peaches - went to see coz laura saw them but didn't quite get what she was about so only saw her for 10 mins. scary woman!
Rise Against - went to see these for a few songs as a filler, was impressed!
Fallout Boy - we went to see the last two songs which were conveniently Sugar, We're Goin Down and Dance Dance, the sound was a bit weird but enjoyable nonetheless! and coz of what happened to Panic, pete wentz told everyone to pick up any rubbish from the floor and throw it at the other side of the crowd, so it rained bottles for one of their songs and it was very cool! and they managed to not get hit themselves lol! so that was a cool crowd thing, and for Dance Dance a guy came out dancing in his underwear which i SWORE was jack black (it really looked like him) but no-one was having any of it. damn.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - were awesome, as predicted Karen O put a massive show on and i enjoyed every minute of it.
Dizzee Rascal - come on, we just had to!! only saw Jus' A Rascal though but that was enough for me :0)
Kaiser Chiefs and Franz Ferdinand - coz i'd seen them before i only saw them for a little while each, and in the meantime caught up with various people and drank and got a henna tattoo that i forgot about until the next day. i call him Ray coz he's a smiley sun.
Saturday
was a fun day! spent some of it on my own though which was both very cool yet also a bit boring, but here's who i saw
Rob Rouse - went to see him in the comedy tent, the only comedian i actually wanted to see, and he was hiliarious!! i love that guy! didn't get to see the end though coz i went to meet Beth to see
The Futureheads - was on the edge for them coz i'd seen them before, but were very enjoyable and i sang and danced along to most of it :0) then Nat (whee!) came and found me again to go and see
The Automatic - who were INCREDIBLE!! we got stuck in there and it was ace. apart from everyone going mad to Monster obviously, the highlight were when Goldie Lookin Chain came on with them and they did a cover of Golddigga!! that's right!!!! it was fucking brilliant.
Feeder - i saw some of them and was wandering around tryin to find people at this point so didn't hear much but i think i prefered them last time i saw them
The Streets - they were fantastic, thought i'd only be there for a couple songs but i really enjoyed myself and they were great at audience participation too lol! after them though i managed to catch up with Beth again to see
Arctic Monkeys - didn't expect to enjoy them so much coz i wasn't really a fan but it just had to be done really but the piece de resistance....
MUSE - words can't even describe how fucking amazing they were. i was pretty much speechless through the whole thing which i haven't felt since Foo Fighters in 2003... it was immense. was quite close as well so the atmosphere was intense. they played everything i wanted them too and also now want the older songs they played too!! ooh man.
that evening though when we got back we found out the tents had been raided and some stuff was stolen so that kind of put a damper on things and we didn't end up going to Silent Disco which was a shame, wireless headphones with 2 dj channels sounded like fun!!
Sunday
woke up late lol! ended up missing Killswitch Engage, we planned to get there for the last couple songs but they finished early the bastards!!
Taking Back Sunday - were cool though, just as a "hey what shall we do" kind of band, recognised probably one song lol
Less Than Jake - were the only band i was intent on seeing all day, and coz i had to miss Reel Big Fish for Muse (come on, Muse win every time) i thought i'm definately seeing Less Than Jake! and they didn't disappoint, so energetic and brilliant with the crowd
Lady Sovereign - there was time to catch her last song lol, just because hehe, she was a lot angrier than i thought she'd be!!
Goldie Lookin Chain - were ACE they were brilliant! everyone else said they were better when they'd seen them before but i hadn't seen them so i really really enjoyed them, and the most memorable songs were Half Man Half Machine (what does it meeean?!) coz there was a guy in tinfoil crowdsurfing lol, and their version of I'm Thinkin bout My Doorbell which went "i'm thinkin bout your missus i really wanna do her, i really wanna do her!!" obviously the released ones as well were great with the crowd.
Boy Kill Boy - we went to see coz we wanted to get in the crowd for the next band and also coz John had heard good things about them, so we had a sit down and listened and were quite impressed!
The Kooks - really enjoyed them, really did, but the only thing i can say was it was more like kareoke coz everyone knew all the words to every song so didn't really hear the band per se, but was still highly enjoyable
Pearl Jam - last band of the festival, and we went expecting to stay for a few songs and head back coz were knackered, but i tell you what, i didn't go there as a fan but i certainly left as one, his voice was amazing, their performance was just incredible i don't know what else to say apart from i want their albums now. they came back for a million encores as well lol and we were entertained by some girl next to us who was shouting FUCKING PEARL JAAAAAAM! the whole time hehe!
last night at festivals is always gonna have riots and things, and to a certain extent it was entertaining just watching everyone go by, but there have to be wankers don't there, and we had some who had tipped over a portaloo/bog roll dispenser thing and were pushing along and they decided it would be an extremely good idea to set fire to this thing RIGHT NEXT TO camp funk, almost setting fire to some of the tents, what wankers! and then it started raining and they wanted to come under our gazebo and coz we didn't want them there they threatened to come back and set fire to us so that wasn't so fun, quite scary actually...
apart from all that bollocks, camping with the guys was very cool and i had a great time even though they claim i was barely even present, loved the hoffen horn and the fires, yummmm!! and the stupid oiks with their trolleys and brolleys and MORNING CAMPERS, TITWANK! and high5s and mobile discos and all that stuff.... made it more memorable :0)
i'm off on my travels for a couple weeks so expect another essay when i get back! xx
