I've not made a substantial post in here in a while. Tonight I'm sick (just a cold) so I have some time to do a catch up post.
Going back to last Thursday to begin with. Nomi found that their was an awesome drag queen show going on at U of T:
DQ Diva Oz Vegas with the proceeds going to the Casey House. I'm good for anything Oz and had never been to a drag show before so we decided it would be great fun. It really was. I was super impressed with some of the performers and just laughed through the whole thing... excepting when they played part of the version of 'Over The Rainbow' that was used in ER when Dr. Greene dies and subsequently makes me misty still. Randomly amazing part of the show: when the characters get their Oz makeovers Dorothy becomes Liza! Hee!
Then we made it back home in time to watch the Grey's finale in which every character seems to get screwed over but Sandra Oh rocks her scenes and should get an Emmy. I'm hoping that Burke was just written out. It looks that way at least and I think that's a good way to get rid of him. I felt that the actor should get some comeuppance for his comments earlier this season but it's much classier that they wrapped up the season with him and had a good exit. Well a bad exit but a belivable one, not as though he was just hit by a bus one day. So I like it.
One show's finale I didn't talk about on time is Crossing Jordan. It was the series finale this year and this whole season was just amazing. Every episode just hit the ball out of the park. I was so impressed that they went out on such a high note. Although for much of the finale this year I thought they were going to go for a huge irony and kill off everyone. Fortunately that wasn't the case... and I think season 1 dvds for the show FINALLY come out this month so I must buy... randomly the Kitchen Confidential DVDs came out today I think... must also buy.
This weekend we had a TO Browncoats Shindig to see Nathan Fillion's film 'Waitress' which I won't spoil here. It was fantastic. I now can appreciate Kerry Russel as an actress.... I couldn't stomach Felicity at all, the whole premise of the show bothered me. So I'm glad she's still working and that she did this film. She was perfect in the role.
After the movie we had some discussion regarding Nathan Fillion and if he's a hair actor or a nostril actor. Seriously. Honestly now that the question is in your mind go now and watch Serenity, you'll see what people are talking about.
Weigh in:
Poll Sunday was Firework day 1. Tom, Jo and myself went to watch them at Hfront (I know it's an axis of evil but there was a good view) and it wasn't too cold out, a little chilly but not bad for being on the waterfront. We lit sparklers afterwards and some random guy took pictures of Jo and I playing with sparklers. Odd but okay. Then these two cute little girls came by and asked "are you guys making fireworks" and we gave them our last two sparklers to play with. So cute. We did have one more but Tom managed to wave it around and put it out. I didn't know that was possible to do! I also borrowed season one of Babylon 5 to watch soon. :)
Monday was a lovely day off. Well sad to start because Nomi moved out. Just down the street but still it's sad. Later in the day Viv came to visit and we fed the birds (the lake is one thing I'll really miss about living out here) and she took lots of pictures with her fabulous camera. We then watched Open Season which is the movie in which Viv is a bear. Seriously, that bear is like 82% Vivian characteristics, I think Sony movie writers are stalking her. It was a cute movie, better than I thought it was going to be.
We ended up being here late enough to go out and see fireworks again. We could see the Ontario Place ones from the park near to my house but they're really tiny all the way back there. However we had plenty of dumb teenagers setting off firecrackers all over the park to watch. One guy had this one that was like a burning schoolhouse but it also shot a lot of pretty fireworks up high into the air as well as having the fountainy effect of sparks around the house. So we look over and he's lit it and is lying face down in the grass holding the thing. Like Superman doing a faceplant on the ground. I'm guessing it was so that it didnt' move and hit someone as the various big fireworks shot up from it however that just looked hella unsafe to me. Perhaps I'm getting too old... also he missed the whole firework since he was facedown in the grass... that can't be fun. There was also the usual assortment of people who shot the firecrackers off from their hands. Oh and one firework that set a bush on fire and then small children were walking up to that to light their sparklers... ummm what? The firework that started that didn't even blow up so that was another thing that just seemed dangerous like woah. I was actually surprised that we didn't witness any injuries but pleasantly so because I really don't want to see some poor kid get hurt.
And now it's Tuesday, VM finale night, and I'm sick and just want to sleep. Part of me feels that maybe I should tune into the last episode because it's the last... the other part of me read the spoilers and doesn't think I can stomach that. I'm already not hungry... seriously, didn't have dinner at all, so not good. I bought groceries and did a load of laundry today after work. So productive for feeling sick, but apparently I'm too lazy to cook and now there's no one here to take care of me and to make me soup. Oh well, perhaps I'll make myself a cup of tea before bed and then try for a good nights sleep :)
c'est tout!
