(no subject)
It's only 7:30am, I went to sleep sometime after 2, not sure when.... and I'm awake and can't sleep.
Oh RENT surprise I'm teasing you all with will be a bit late, tecnical difficulties :S But I think Monday night it should all be a go :)
Last night I went out to a concert, the perfect thing after a HIGH stress day at work. I saw Tamara Podemski and Lucie Idlout and there was a new comer who played in between their sets but I didn't catch his name.
I met up with Jo to venture out for the concert and we were both on time and so made it there in time to snag a table pretty near to the front :) I think one day I'd go back there to eat at the restaurant part, they brought around these little smoked salmon things where were really great!
First up, Tamara Podemski who, in case you're new, would be the reason I went to the show :) She played a really powerful strong set. This was probably one of the better shows I've heard from her and I've yet to hear a bad one, which makes this one great! Also it was a longer set than some of the more recent gigs I've been to of hers recently so that was a treat :)
The gentleman who played a short set in the middle was alright. He had a good strong voice but I found his lyrics to be pretty much what a million and one other singers are writing so he didn't make much of an impression. I didn't feel I needed his CD (if he had one... not sure if he does yet) or anything just yet. The potential is there though.
The night was wrapped up with Lucie Idlout who from the minute she started singing just commands your attention. She was really great and I think I will be buying her CD sometime. I didn't pick it up last night because I have a million and one other things that I have to spend money on this weekend. However, her music is really fabulous and she gives an amazingly intense performance.
After the show wrapped up Jo and I were able to chat with Tamara for a bit. Found out a bit more about the pilot show she mentioned in her journal on her site. It actually sounds better than the IMDB description made it sound. Although it does say that the show is airing on Fox which means if it's good I don't trust that they won't axe it (Drive is already half gone and it hasn't even aired yet!) On the other hand I'm hoping Fox gives the show a try because it's always good to see Tamara in new projects and it would be great for her name and face to get out there more so that shows in LA are just dying to add her to their casts!
Then home again. Oh and I realized two things about our location last night. Firstly is that Bar Italia (where the concert was being held... very nice in there!) is totally the place where when a friend of ours got way beyond drunk ( and was sick all down College st.) this is where Danny nipped into to buy water and ended up with an $8.00 bottle of sparkling mineral water. Then as I was waiting at Bathurst trying to figure out whether I should go to Queen and streetcar home or try for Subway and rush to catch my last bus I realized that this was were we'd always walk down after partying at the Dance Cave. So as the walk down was always VERY sketchy I figured it was best to try my luck with catching the last bus. As streetcars were running very slowly I just walked to Bloor, there were enough people out that I don't think it was too sketchy yet :)
So there's my night, off to see Nicole today!
Oh and last night I kept dreaming that Tamara Podemski and Sarah Slean were playing a gig together (Tamara as the opener) at Harbourfront. I don't know that that combination would work so much for a show but I do know I would be on fan overload lol!
