Oh LU, I'm not even there and they're pissing me off by proxy. Seriously!
This year they've told students (not asked, told) that the graduation will be webcast. Which for sure this year is a safty problem for a few of my friends who are graduating due to a stalking problem we all went through in first year. No one wants a stalker able to see them freely on the internet. However LU has now stated that by attending graduation you wave your right to privacy. That just cannot be ethical. IF one signed a waver then they wave the right to privacy. Not if they attend their graduation which, when they signed up to attend, no one was informed it would be webcast.
This is the same bullshit they always pull. They do something that is semi sketchy and then tell people about it at the last minute so that they cannot properly argue against it. Essentially if one chooses to argue they wont be able to attend the ceremony because it's too late now. It reminds me of the UofS lockout over Christmas holidays in third year (I know UofS is seperate but it bothers me too) and they gave most people less than 48 hours to find a place to stay over the holidays. Then lied about why until I found out the reason why and told it to them (master keys were missing) and they were shocked that any student knew the keys were gone. Newsflash, admin were the LAST people to know that, no one wanted the guy who had his keys stolen to get in trouble if it could be helped so for about three weeks.
Or you know, how LU TURNED OFF the security system on my building in fourth year because they had no way of seperating it from their other res. So the doors were just propped open. I was told they were "broken" but they somehow were fixed when move in day came around again after the holidays and the other system was turned on, funny how that worked.
That place seems to assume that the students are all ignorant and wont question things. Like a fiber optic cable being downed by storms 3 times last year thus cutting off the internet, and it was the "only cable between Barrie and Sudbury" but it wasn't on the news and somehow the town still had internet.
I hate that place, anyone who reads this, seriously, Laurentian University, not a good place, not an educational place, it's frustrating place and I feel so much healthier now that I'm not there.
