I'm sure everyone in LJ-land has heard the crushing news about author L.K. Madigan's battle with pancreatic cancer, which she shared publicly
on her blog last week. I don't know Lisa well, but I feel strongly connected to her through the Morris Award for a young adult debut, which we celebrated just days earlier with our interview series with the 2011 Honorees. We all hope that our first books are just the start of many--that we'll be celebrating releases and gnashing our teeth over revisions and connecting with young readers for years to come, but the truth is, the universe doesn't promise us anything. Nobody knows what's coming tomorrow, how many stories we'll get a chance to tell. Which makes it all the more important that we tell the best stories we can, right now. And RIGHT NOW,
debut2009 is celebrating L.K. Madigan's brilliant stories with a giveaway of forty sets (forty!) of her beautiful novels, the Morris Award-winning Flash Burnout and her 2010 release The Mermaid's Mirror. All they ask is that we all help spread the love for Lisa and her work--and a little more love sounds like just what the universe needs right now.
