Days 11 & 12

Jul 28, 2011 12:43

Well, I managed to keep up for ten days, anyway. And besides, it's not my fault that lj was down last night so it didn't matter that I forgot about it.

Anyway, good thing in Random Updates About Elizabeth's Life: so, I turned in the writing journal entry (the duel with the zombie snake), and felt a little concerned since it was radically different from all my others. And then yesterday at the beginning of class, my teacher said darkly that she needed to Speak To Us about our journal entries but also there was lots of other stuff - and never did, raising my level of alarm from "mild concern" to "verging on panic." So after class, I asked her about it (which is to say, I mumbled "um earlier um um something about our notebooks um you didn't talk so um").

TEACHER: Oh right, I had been going to ... but don't worry, Elizabeth, yours is fine.
ELIZABETH: *relieved*
TEACHER: It's better than fine, actually. It was amazing!
ELIZABETH: oh...I...thanks! *beams*
TEACHER: In fact, do you think you're brave enough to read it to the class on Monday?
ELIZABETH: yeah! *reconsiders* I mean ... *re-reconsiders* Sure! Thank you!

zombie snakes ftw!

St...oh wait, I don't have that any more. :(

Asexuality meme

(11) If you’re out, talk about the most accepting person you’ve come out to. If you’re not out, talk about what you would hope a coming out experience would be like.

Online, probably hlbr  and tulina , who didn't once question my right to define my own identity, have been extremely supportive, and put up with me talking about it all the time even though it's probably super-boring and I imagine they disagree with me about a lot of things.

In real life, my psychology professor, to whom I came out in a personal essay all about my asexuality. He responded by giving me the only A+++ I've received in my college career, babbling about how amazing it was and saying he knew nothing about asexuality before but now he does, because he read my paper, and hey, could I please present to his class so that they, too, could be less ignorant?

(12) What's your favourite asexual tumblr site?

I don't know! I just read the asexual/asexuality tumblr tag occasionally - I think the only one I bother to read regularly is writingfromfactorx, because Sciatrix is awesome.

(11) Genre - do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write the most?

Aha, yeah. When I'm writing, I end up reading a lot of emotional porn. Uh. I don't know what it's called? But stuff that is all about ... well, not just "people feeling stuff," but aching and intense and immensely melodramatic. Basically romance, only not necessarily romantic (but sometimes it is!). I like it best with family stuff, I think, though also friendship, and also romantic too! Really, I am all about the emotional porn as a reader, and especially when I'm writing. Even though it's not usually what I am writing (which I struggle to make other than completely bloodless).

As for writing, I mostly write gen and AUs, lots of shorter pieces, lots of stuff focused on vaguely dysfunctional families. Or very dysfunctional ones, in some cases. You know who I'm talking about.

(12) Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" fic of a favourite book or movie, but set in a different fandom?

You mean a fusion? Yeah, I did a Ten Facts where P&P happens in the HP universe (but the P&P period). It was fun, and I'd like to write the story someday, when my being-swamped subsides below the Humperdinck level.
