Usually, Austen takes painstaking care to fit the pieces of her puzzles together seamlessly. P&P, in particular, is a miracle of internal consistency. To all appearances, the cast of over twenty differing personalities achieve a suspiciously neat conclusion by acting, and being, perfectly "in-character" as they pursue their own ends. On the

Thank you! I honestly wonder about that, because if there isn't an immediate crisis to deal with, he's about as impulsive as a glacier. (Though also about as inevitable.) I've heard people talk about how OOC it is for him to do nothing for months on end about his feelings for Elizabeth/his "engagement" to Anne/his mistake over Jane/whatever, but - just, no. Darcy is much more a "but I haven't synthesized all the data yet! I haven't even finished gathering it! Go away and allow me to properly analyse this" type.

Uhm. Well. There are . . . quite a few, let's say. I try to feed them into one plot as often as I can, but they breed like, well, rabbits. Still, I like this one, and it could be short. A la C&V, maybe.

It does throw a very warm light on the relationship between Darcy and Georgiana. I never really liked the Let'sNeverTalkAboutThisGeorgianaNeverYouHear!relationship that is usually described in fanfics. There is a difference between mentioning it in public or amongst friends/acquaintance and mentioning it between brother & sister (& other guardian). I would like to think that two siblings who are so close would 'Talk' to each other (with a capital T).
Btw, I once read somewhere that he went with Bingley to Netherfield in order to deflect attention from Georgiana (and her abscence and/or grieving) and 'act normal'.
Please, do write that story! I'd love to read it!!
Julie.
