The Problem of Jane and Other SC Rambles

Dec 09, 2008 17:01

Anybody who's read SC knows what The Problem of Jane is.  At least, I hope so.  Because nearly everyone threw screaming fits over her - not because they thought she was badly-written (thank heavens!) but because they thought she was bloody annoying.

Well, she was bloody annoying, and I rather meant her to be, but . . . there wasn't any way to really ( Read more... )

I've been reading SC and many of your other lovely stories over at austen.com and ff.net and I just had to stop by and tell you how much I've enjoyed your work. Your AU adaptations are just fascinating. I love how very carefully you depict the way tiny (or huge!) differences in canon would affect the plot and characterizations. You do a great job of taking the canon characters and then saying, "What if this happened instead? How would that affect their character development?"

I just discovered Jane Austen fanfic in the last week, and I wasn't really looking for a rehashing of everything that the books cover. Specifically I was looking for post-canon tales and what-if scenarios. I've very much enjoyed finding such a talented author who writes both!

From what you say above, I gather you are in the process of re-writing SC? Is there anywhere else other than austen.com and ff.net where I should go to find the most up-to-date list of your stories? I'm definitely interested in keeping up with whatever you write!

Thanks so much for all the hard work you invest in your stories!

Oh! Thank you! That is, of course, the idea (and my whole theory of how-to-write-fanfic, lol), but I'm always delighted when somebody thinks, seriously, that I've succeeded!

The new version of SC is here: http://sites.google.com/site/subsequentconnections/

If you're of age, you'll probably want to register at http://meryton.com/aha - there are a lot of stories there, including some of mine that aren't posted at DWG (where the inability to keep comment threads or edit chapters can get very annoying).

You're quite welcome, and I hope you enjoy the new SC!

Thank you for the links! I've been running out of stories to read over at austen.com, and ff.net is like the Pit of Despair sometimes! ;-) It helps to know where the good stuff is posted.

And thanks again for the fantastic stories!

ff.net is *totally* the Pit of Despair! :D

You're quite welcome, as always, of course. Though these days I don't like most things well enough to read, I try to mention those that I do.

Loved, LOVED the new version of SC!! Is there some way I can keep track of updates? Do you post about them here on your LJ? I would track the thread over at meryton.com, however I see that's the original version of the story.

Also, is meryton.com the site I should check for a complete list of all your most updated stories?

Thanks!

Thanks! I always post an announcement in the AHA comment thread, and from now on, I probably will at the DWG too.

Meryton.com probably has the best list, though a few pieces are only at HG.
