Day 3

This one's another shocker!

Day 3: What is your favourite book?

“To yield readily-easily-to the persuasion of a friend is no merit with you.”

“To yield without conviction is no compliment to the understanding of either.”

There are so many awesome passages that I could hardly narrow them down. It's Pride and Prejudice, y'all - a book that does everything, from pacing to characterization to dialogue to plot, perfectly, while simultaneously delivering a feast to the id. Is it as complex as Emma or as thematically rich as Mansfield Park? No - as far as I'm concerned, MP is the best of Austen's novels - but P&P is quite simply the most enjoyable novel in the English language. At no point do I go, "except for that one thing that bugged me" as I do with everything else; there is literally nothing about P&P that bothers me, and virtually everything about it fascinates me.

I'll write alternate pairings for it because that's my thing, but when it comes down to it, Darcy/Elizabeth is the OTP to rule them all. It's my favourite love-story of all time: unsentimental, shamelessly wish-fulfilling, witty, UST-laden, thoughtful, beautifully characterized, and fun. It's like somebody placed a dark chocolate oreo ice cream-filled cake in front of me, covered it with hot fudge and real whipped cream, grated some more chocolate on top, and then it turned out to be good for my teeth, too.

Her liking Darcy and Elizabeth is enough, she might hate all the others if she would.
