gifspam!

Jan 13, 2012 08:09

I have, somehow, managed to acquire too many pictures for a normal picspam since my last picspam. So instead, here are just the gifs -- all Star Wars, as usual. A few are in sets, for which I sorta-kinda came up with titles.

I can't help but flail happily every time I see this, even if it's on something I don't like. GUYS IT'S STAR WARS.

Exactly. Though hey, Yoda, maybe the Jedi could have done with a few ambitious dreamers like Luke and Anakin to jostle the status quo a bit? But no, because your way worked out SO WELL.

(And, uh, I might have based almost his entire character arc in Revenge on this line.)

"exposition faces"

So this is when Obi-Wan "tells" him "how" "his father" "died." Yes, Obi-Wan requires quotes of ambiguity around almost everything he says. (Also, I love his "aw, shucks" face, and all the more because he's perfectly willing to acknowledge his merits himself. He just gets super uncomfortable when other people do.)

I don't ... perfectly remember the context for this. The garage? By expression I'd think Obi-Wan's hut, though. Hm.

ahahahahahahahaha

BADASS DAMSEL

I know a lot of people get annoyed by this, but it kind of is. And Luke's total transparency amuses me.

the Force will be with you, always.

Incidentally, I keep running across people wondering why everyone draws Luke as blond when he's actually a brunet. And ... lolwut?

Leia's immediate reaction to waking up to find an Imperial in her cell, ogling her.

...yeah.

"A princess and a guy like me"

This scene was more unambiguously enjoyable before Return of the Jedi made it, well, yeah. On the other hand, I find it amusing that Luke manages to pull "no, you're not good enough for my sister" retroactively and completely unintentionally. It's Han's reaction that really sells it, though -- he's amused, but his amusement is rarely condescending. There's definitely a sort of camaraderie to it here; you can tell they're going to be bffs regardless of how the thing with Leia turns out. (Of course, in the event it turns out in the best way possible for them.)

I just thought this was cute.

"group hug"

Yeah, I'll never get tired of blogging this moment in every possible variation I can find. It's just so exuberant and YAY FRIENDSHIP and okay, so Leia actually pushes Luke towards Han before flinging herself at him and putting her other arm around Luke and the random bystanders are all asquee and everything is wonderful.

Oh look, another one. <3

"award ceremony"

The retcons don't often make me happy, but this is one of those times. Our fiercely traditional fantasy epic now ends with the hero bowing to his younger sister. And she's a princess who gives an award rather than, say, being one.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE.

Of course executing your own officers for incompetence is very very wrong and not at all funny. But ... heh.

This is from the deleted scene that originally led into the one we have in Empire. The reveal would have been even more awkward if it'd been kept, but I love Leia in it. She goes from fussing over him here to screaming at him in about ten seconds -- and Luke starts to tell her to "calm down," stops himself, and instead tries to figure out what the hell is going on. <3

Cloud City will always be one of the coolest locations in Star Wars.

I just like this moment.

Luke in Dagobah.

"there is no try"

Yeah, so some things never become less awesome.

I really like his expression here -- taken aback but definitely intrigued.

I don't care what anyone says, this will always be my favourite lightsaber duel.

Though this one is pretty cool too.

So, um, Anakin seems awfully confident that his only son is going to back up just in time to avoid getting shishkabobbed on his sword that CUTS THROUGH ANYTHING. And given that he's trying to avoid killing him ... yeah, think about your choices.

In a shocking development, Leia is totally hardcore.

"legacy"

oh my god

;_;

The thing that gets me, I think, is how the first one is full of his usual fervour about everything, but in the second, he's not particularly fierce or intense about it, just sad. And, I think, tired.

:( :( :(

lol telekinesis by foot. I mean, theoretically there's no reason it shouldn't work, and I suppose it's resourceful to use all your limbs for it, but ... lol. Extra points for random background guy (Boba Fett?)!

"stfu palpatine"

a;lkjfa;kdfj;akjdf;ka;dfkja;dkfjakdfj;dkj

;_; but these are happy tears

I can't even, it's just, I have feelings about this, okay? LOTS OF FEELINGS.

Oh, and people have complained that since it turns out that he could have stopped the lightning if he hadn't thrown his lightsaber away and now this scene is stupid and holy missing the point, Batman. It's obvious that he's able to protect himself while he has his weapon, but he keeps sliding towards the Dark Side -- that's why the Emperor encouraged him to take it in the first place! He can't resist out of incorruptible pure pureness, but he can remove temptation from himself, making himself entirely vulnerable rather than fall. So that's what he does. This isn't Luke's moment of failure but of triumph. (That, incidentally, is why I liked him best as "the victor" in the fanvids.)

Obi-Wan speaks nonverbal!

Stopped a colleague from killing the lawfully elected leader in an act of total disrespect for due process?

(Yes, I know that's not why he did it. I still think that whole scenario is really skeevy. I also think it's a bit strange that he agonizes over and regrets a fairly defensible crime, goes on to slaughter innocent children with scarcely a moment's hesitation, then takes out the villains and starts regretting things again. Umm, maybe he doesn't disassociate as much when he's not committing wholly despicable acts and it hits him harder, I don't know.)

"galactic domination"

Hmm, where have I heard this before?

Also, this is one of the scenes where I think Hayden Christensen really does sell Anakin's sort of creepy innocence. He's so earnest and his happy little smile is just, would be adorable but UM NO.

It's a bit endearing that she has no fear about running right up to him, regardless of his recent activities.

But in the event, unwise. I'm still unsure if this moment works for me, mostly because I just don't want domestic abuse in my space opera (and whatever might be said about circumstances, it's still domestic abuse). But Padmé being the first victim of his Force-choke certainly makes it more omgwtf than it could be for anyone else.

Obi-Wan and Vaderkin at Mustafar. Anakin is clearly off the deep end at this point, but Obi-Wan seems almost afraid -- though I don't think of Anakin. I don't get the impression he was ever afraid of Anakin, really, even once he was a seven-foot-tall cyborg. At a guess, I think he's steeling himself for what he's about to do.

"powah!"

I never noticed this! And it is very similar -- that's where Luke does his first Force-choke, too (though it's an enemy with a sharp pokey thing rather than his wife, so yeah). The main difference, of course, is that Anakin is all Dark Side-y and Luke, while veering that way a bit, is still essentially in control of himself and seems almost amused by the whole situation. It's like "BURN KILL DESTROY" versus "give me my friends and I'll pay you a fair price for them; don't, and I'll kill everything that moves. lol!"

"Skywalkers!"

*glee*

I wish I could remember who'd done this.

I really really really like this moment. I mean, I don't, because it's depressing as hell, but it works incredibly well.

Also, I just noticed when I was watching Return of the Jedi with my foster sister, but there are the same tendrils of smoke around Luke when Palpatine tries to torture him to death. Maybe coincidental, but maybe ... not.
