Mary has said:
"I promise you, Francie and I are both very good at getting people to give us what we want, quite cheerfully; we can even make them believe that when they give us what we want, it's what they want, too. Francie's southern habits may be deeply irritating to some of you, but it has a highly positive effect on school administrators. ... Can you honestly say that you believe Eliza will be an effective negotiator, that she'll be consistently effective in convincing the school administration that they want what we want, and that they want to do it her way? No, after she takes a swing at the dean with whatever item is handiest on his desk, they'll increase her dosage, and we'll be worse off than we were before."
Francie has said:
"Vote for me, Francie Hodgson, and forget about stereotypes. Think you couldn't possibly be properly represented by an outgoing cheerleader type? Think again. I can be your secret weapon. I am convinced this administration needs a good, swift kick in the ass from the student body. I'm ready and willing to take them on. They'll never know what hit them."
This might just be because I'm fucked up in the head, but I'm confused. Mary implies that I'm violent, and endorses Francie, who talks about giving the administration a "good, swift kick in the ass from the student body." Maybe that was figuratively, but if I were to kick the administration and faculty in the ass, I'd take the blame on my own shoulders and not spread it over the entire student body.
I'm used to getting what I want. I'm not bad at negotiating; I just get violent when people start trying to get me to "open up." I take it no one else wants to hear about my past, and if anyone here knew about it, I don't think I could be blamed for not wanting to talk about it. I don't think the teachers are going to try and dig more than they have to, either.
And the most effective way to negotiate is not to make people think they want the same thing you want, it's to convince them that what you want is best for them. There's a subtle difference, but it's important. It doesn't involve persuasion and winning-over, where they'll think twice soon after the meeting's over, it involves a good argument so if they doubt they're doing the right thing later on, they'll think back on that argument and realized they made the right decision because it's best, not because it's something they want (wants, after all, are subject to change).
And furthermore, let me point out that I've been working my ass off, not so much putting up posters as showing I'm worthy of this. I've brought my grades up, and apart from my therapist, I haven't attacked anyone in nearly a week (but my therapist had it coming. I've known him ten years; he knows how much is too much).
Anyway, I've been working on school and talking to the teachers during my breaks so they won't be so afraid of me. Francie might have the "deeply irritating" but somehow effective on admistrators (?), but I'm going out of my way to show that I'm actually capable, talking with people and finding out what people would like to see done, etc.
I'm not going to tell you to vote for me. Make up your own minds.
