coming home to a Kindle 2 on your chair!!!

Frustration is...

the first three authors you check don't have anything you don't already own (or want to buy again) available for the Kindle.

GRRRR!

Darnit Knitress beat me to the recommendation...which in turn was noticed because of the author's LJ anyway -- least on this end!

Though, seriously...holding off on buying toys because of the whole need to pay for the wedding, new (to me) big-ass vehicle and a new home... So holding off on the shiny new toys that have caught my attention like finding a 50+" HDTV that can handle 1920x1200 resolution at 120Hz, or a Kindle2, or an HTC Touch Pro or HTC Touch Pro2 -- Granted, my carrier won't even have the Pro until April and iPhone is right out as talking for no extra charge to the people I know on my current carrier sorta outweighs the niftiness factors of smart phones...though my best friend did show me the shiny new iPod touch he's having to learn for work last night...

The other reason for me to hold off on the Kindle is now that B&N made a press release about acquiring Fictionwise (fictionwise.com and eReader.com) so I'm curious about how competitive the pricing is going to be... Plus,
with the whole effort to save money -- I'm taking a little more time to find free audio and ereader books, not to mention the public libraries and various online free story sites...since stories and cheese are like my two biggest addictions..

Though...backing up to the Kindle, something I didn't see listed in the reviews on Amazon (of course I haven't looked since it's actual release, but I figure since you have one it'll be easier to ask you) -- My concern is the DRM on the books themselves and how you can manage those titles...

Specifically, how easy it is to backup an restore those ebooks to an external drive or computer, since I understand the Kindle 2 did away
with the SD card slot. And on that same note, assuming you can export
the books to your Mac or PC, is there a reader available to let you read them independent of the Kindle? Obviously I don't know much about the Kindle, but these are the types of frustrations I've run into with the DRM bound media I've purchased from iTunes in the past...
