So, here's my dilemma. I'm going back to school starting this coming Summer term, to actually finish my B.S. (yay!). Here's the question I've been mulling on though. Do I:
A) Go the quick and dirty route and get a B.S. in general science. No specific major, just the quick, get me out of here as soon as possible route.
or
B) Get my BS in something specific, current front runner is Math. Before, I was studying Chemistry, but with my current work schedule and how the classes transferred over (not very well) Math is looking much more appealing.
Breaking down the numbers, the
(a) Science degree would get me out of school the quickest. By the time I finished the residency requirement (complete 45 credits at this college to graduate from there) I'd be more than done with all the requirements needed for this major.
(b) Math degree, by taking only those required classes for major or other general university studies, would be four additional classes than the science degree. At the part time (2 classes at a time) this equates to another half year of study.
I'm currently going to be doing this by taking about 2 classes a term, night or (when available) weekend classes. This will greatly cut into my social life during this time, but hey I want to get this completed and this is more important. My current employer is encouraging of the school, but not the most flexible on schedule. :-P
So...my question is the extra time (& money involved) worth the long term investment in myself of having a specific degree in an actual field, specifically Math? What exactly can you do with a basic BS in Science degree, or is it too much of a cop-out and not worth it in the long run.
Thoughts, advice, etc are welcome. Thanks in advance for your help.
