But before I just take it, can you let me know what's involved in modding a community like this?

A community like this? Nothing, really because there isn't much activity. If you do take it over you'd want to promote it to get more members (I'd help you with that). If it becomes popular all you would have to do is make sure people are posting what they're supposed to be posting, giving constructive criticism, etc.
