History:
A young boy named Will grew up just off of Violet City in Route 32, where his mother stayed home to nurture him and his father juggled work, hobby, and family. Before this, Will's mother grew up a Pokémon trainer, though her path diverged into that of a contest regular. His father, on the other hand, had always been an archaeologist at heart, and he spent his time trying to find means of income while immersing himself in what he loved most. He, too, became a Pokémon trainer.
The two met in Hoenn, where both were away from their homes in Johto. Upon falling in love and marrying, they relocated, ending up where Will would spend the first 10 years of his life.
From a young age, Will was exposed to Pokémon. Even then, he didn't express much interest in them, regarding them just as he would another person outside of his small family of him and his parents. He loved to spend time with his mother, since his father was usually out and about during the day hours.
Will's mother had retired her contesting ways to raise her only child and opted to watch them on TV, where she would let young Will sit on her lap as she criticized and marveled over the tiniest aspects of the contestants and their Pokémon. Through her love for contests, Will's mother developed a habit of dressing herself sharply, no matter the occasion, and she would see to it that her son would follow suit. That wasn't to say that Will objected, for he liked the attention and admiration that his mother would give him. From day one, Will was a child with a wardrobe full of the dressiest clothes you would find on a 4-year-old. It stuck with him throughout his life, as evidenced through his present day attire.
Aside from these moments of bonding with his mother, the two didn't share much in common, and Will wasn't the type to seek other forms of interaction (without being shy about it). Instead, he would spend his time roaming the Ruins of Alph, much to the disdain of his parents, who constantly urged him to keep away from there. Will liked to hang around the halls where Unown decorated the walls; he could feel an ominous presence there, and it kept him occupied for the time being.
However, that didn't mean that the purple-haired youth never felt forlorn over his lack of friends. In fact, he would often drift through Violet City like a ghost, hoping others might notice him and talk with him. He would sit on the docks, aching for someone to be sitting at his side. However, he was shy, so he feared approaching others in the city. His method of walking past people in hopes of grabbing their attention would have to suffice. That effort bore no fruit, but at least it gave him something to do with his time. Luckily, this experience didn't affect the boy too much. In fact, he doesn't look back on his childhood as a lonely period in his life: instead, he thinks of it more as a time for thought. For the most part, up until age 5, Will did nothing but join in on his mother's activities and drift about locales.
That is, until Will's mother gave him his first Pokémon. She was concerned over her child's disinterest in most everything, so she wondered if giving him a Pokémon of her favorite type might remedy that. Of course, the new introduction stunned Will, and at first, he didn't want anything to do with the little Natu his mother brought home. This reaction was brief; the Natu made the biggest effort to please Will, and she followed him everywhere.
Will noticed that he found it very easy to connect with a Pokémon. He thought he would become frustrated over the lack of communication he had with them, but he soon realized it was almost as if the understanding between him and Natu was more than the relationship he had with his own father. It was almost as though the two of them knew where the other was coming from: what they were thinking, feeling, knowing. Will was amazed at this development, and it wasn't long before he disbanded his pastime of watching Pokémon contests with his mother in favor of spending more time with Natu.
Now Will went everywhere with his Natu, enjoying their silent friendship. When Natu was feeling anxious, Will knew, and always asked her what the matter was. Natu noticed whenever Will was sad, and she knew just what to do to comfort him. Will never thought he would find so much enjoyment through company, and he felt he could tell everything to his friend without being judged over the comment.
Will's mother noticed his connection with the tiny Pokémon and thought Will might be interested in attending the Pokémon school they had in Violet. Will accepted, and he began his education at the small academy. However, he found the school to be a bore, and usually spent the lecture daydreaming of what he might do with Natu when he got home.
This was certainly puzzling. Will's mother thought of ways to remedy this and finally, she decided to talk with her son. She told Will of fascinating journeys she had as a Pokémon trainer, and what splendor it was to be recognized for being a successful trainer. She related his teachings to Natu, and reiterated the basics. Will understood, and finally became more enthusiastic about learning more about Pokémon.
After this, Will found himself listening intently to the lectures and taking detailed notes in his head. He thought up of things he could do differently than what the teacher puked up from his lesson plan to connect with his Pokémon better than anyone else could, and he wound up spending more time trying to trust and identify with his Natu than he did battle. He tried to put himself in Natu's position when the two fought against Ratatta, and tried to envision what was most natural of her to do. He tried to feel what it was like to be the Pokémon rather than the trainer. Soon enough, he knew the two of them could connect in ways unimaginable- they could be the same person when they battled, and they knew just what it was when something was wrong. They knew each other front and back.
Perhaps it was this that led Will to believe he was a psychic. It wasn't something he wanted, but when he asked his teacher to retell a battle strategy, he couldn't find the merit in it. The 9-year-old shrugged common training practices off; he couldn't wait until he was 10 so that he could burst forth upon the world and dazzle everyone he met with his amazing influence.
Naturally, after gaining his trainer's license, he quickly began his journey across Johto. He felt as though being a Pokémon trainer came innately to him, and taking down gym leaders, though no easy task, happened bit by bit. He found the need to have more Pokémon than just Natu, and he gave them each the same treatment he gave Natu. It was his style. Psychic-types were his forte, he learned; he appreciated the relationship he could foster with them. He always made sure to give his Pokémon the attention he always gave them, no matter what obstacle they were faced with. Due to their nature, they were always as willing to help him out as he was for them, so they had a great experience together.
It seemed like forever before he finally decided to move on to the region of Kanto. [[This decision, though a hard one to make, was mainly fueled by his desire to meet with the psychic Sabrina. He had heard of her high achievements both regarding Pokemon and her powers across Johto, and it was a very, very interesting subject to the Psychic-type trainer. He avoided Saffron at first, touching base in Vermillion, Lavender, then Cerulean. It seemed like an illogical path, but he was actually rather nervous to meet Saffron City's gym leader!
It may have taken him a while, but the thirteen-year-old psychic boy finally summoned the courage to confront Sabrina. It didn't take long before he realized how foolish his fears were: he almost felt comfortable around her, even though they didn't know each other at all. From there, Will trained in her gym alongside her, never faltering on the opportunity to hone his psychic abilities under her guidance. In the meantime, whenever he found the chance, Will visited other destinations in the Kanto region, not missing a single bit of it.
Once he was almost 16, Will decided his travel of Kanto had ended. He thanked Sabrina, promising to see her again someday before heading directly to Sinnoh.]] ((This section would have to be okay'd by a Sabrina. If not, it's easy to summarize it as:)) After a couple years travelling Kanto, the psychic, after honing both his own skills as well as his Pokémon's, moved onto the next region on his agenda: Sinnoh.
Sinnoh was a lot different from what he had expected. He liked the terrain differences as well as the ample opportunities to try new things. He noticed trends, where people's feelings reflected the overall atmosphere of the cities and towns. [[Little things like that piqued his interest as a developing psychic, but another thing initiated his curiosity: a boy of about his own age whose feelings reflected sorrow. That wasn't the only thing that drew Will in, however: this boy seemed to possess the aura of a psychic. With this, Will felt courageous enough to encounter the lilac-haired trainer, inquisitive.
His name was Lucian. The two got along well right off the bat, and it wasn't long before the two ended up on the same path. Because of this, they decided to travel together, if not just for a little while. As with Sabrina, Will found it easy to open up to Lucian, though it took time and effort to learn about one another. They spent their time learning about the little qualities the other had. Through this method, the two had an easier time bonding without any negativities standing in the way; it was a pleasant relationship, in Will's eyes.
Once their paths parted ways, Will was sure to keep in contact with him.]] ((This would also need to be confirmed by a Lucian. For now, I'll keep it cut out and continue:)) After a couple years, he found his strength had grown incredibly. The end of his journey in Sinnoh was only a step away, and once his goal was reached, he moved on to Hoenn.
He took Hoenn down one location at a time, again taking extra care not to miss a single sight. He spent most of his time training his Pokémon while deepening their relationship.
Naturally, this took a few more years. Finally, at age 20, Will concluded his trip in Hoenn, finding that he wanted to return to Sinnoh. However, at the same time, the Elite Four back in Johto and Kanto was seeking new members. The purple-haired Psychic-type trainer was oblivious to this new development until he reached the region of Sinnoh, where he received news that he had been recommended to join the ranks of the E4. Naturally, he accepted; his was filled with overwhelming glee at the very thought of it, but he tried to contain his excitement as best as he could.
Upon settling into the league, Will worked as hard as he could to dispel the trainers that set foot into his room. While some may have gotten by, much to his contempt, they were always stopped by his higher-ups. However, that isn't to say that many got past his psychic prowess: he is truly a formidable opponent, and that isn't to be underestimated.
This was a trend until a boy came along. This boy stomped him flat, and it didn't end with him. Much to Will's surprise - and disdain - he even beat the champion, Lance (He was almost afraid that would mean he would have to leave- he didn't know how it would work out). However, Ethan surprised again by declining the position of champion.
Since then, Will has kept his position in the Elite Four. He still yearns for the position of champion, but he has not advanced from his position. (That can almost be disheartening.) Only once over the past six years did Will venture far from his post, and that was to navigate the Resort Area, Fight Area, and Survival Area. Other than that, he keeps to Johto and Kanto, still aiming to become the best there is.
Personality:
Will is a psychic Pokémon trainer with an ambition: to be the very best. That sounds really cliché, and it is, but it's the truth. What kind of Pokémon trainer would you be if all you wanted to do was to be the third strongest master of this hole Pokémon trainer there ever was? Gee, that's cool. Regardless, while being part of the Elite Four is a step, there's still more for him to gain.
Will is passionate about Pokémon. His favorite type is the Psychic-type; he feels a strong connection to them and empathizes strongly with them. Inside, Will is really emotional, and while the mask he wears on his face (take it as you will) shields his feelings, it gives him great comfort to know that his companions are the only ones that can delve into his personal self. In fact, if you were to try to scour the planet for the people who knew Will best, it would end up being his most loved Pokémon.
After all, he has the strangest fear of allowing people in: one thing Will cannot bear to imagine is being judged by another person just based on what little they know. He's one of those people who regrets telling an acquaintance too much about himself in one day. That's not to say he doesn't bother keeping track of contacts and catching up with them. It's more as though, with most people, he prefers to keep things at light conversation mode. After puking up an experience he had in the past from his memory to another person, he'll lay awake at night, wondering if he should have kept his mouth sealed as usual. The fear lies in the fact that they only know a piece of him, and it's difficult to understand the depth of a person when they only know one part of their story.
Maybe that's because he's the kind of person who pays special attention to everything anyone says to him. Will remembers things people confide in him about just to get to understand them better. He keeps their experiences at heart and doesn't let that one piece of the puzzle shape who they are, even if it's a common one. However, in being the one who knows more about a person than they know about him, it also makes him feel as though he has the upper hand: it gives him the insight to how they work, what they think, how they battle, what they do- the mechanics of another soul. Or perhaps it's because he cares too much. Maybe it's both.
His psychic powers sure help with this sort of tactic. Will wasn't exactly born with them, per se, but it came almost naturally to him once he began bonding with the little Natu he called his best friend. It was almost as though he knew exactly what his friend was saying, feeling, thinking. In this, it's safe for me to say that Will cannot read minds. He can feel emotions, and emotions tell a lot about what a person is thinking. His sixth sense is very adept, but instead of being able to read what someone is thinking, he feels what others feel.
As stated earlier on, Will's emotional. He hides it well behind a p-p-p-poker face, but inside, he's a storm of feelings. Little disruptions send him on a roller coaster and he's easily put off by things he doesn't expect. Welcome to Will's world of insecurities. He likes to know about everything, even if he pretends to embrace spontaneity. He's incredible at concealing his true thoughts. He's easy to make sad, but he rarely cries. When he's happy, he rarely lets a true smile grace his features; instead, that fake smile is constantly plastered upon his countenance. Of course, his expression changes, but they're not dramatic shifts. (Actually, maybe that mask he always wears probably aids a lot in that façade of his.) Over this, he acts calm, confident, and easygoing, if not sometimes cold and distant. He may occasionally come across as the "typical psychic" with that sort of getup.
Will is also vain. He takes great pride in the way he looks, even though it may seem like he's always wearing a very strange outfit... he always dresses to impress, no matter what he's doing or where he's going. He has quite the variety of strange outfits and they're important to note, since he wears things like cravats, ruffs, masks, and other oddities. He enjoys looking different from everyone else; it makes him stand out. Never does he remove the black mask he wears over his face except for on some nights and sometimes in the shower. He has multiples of these, of course, but he feels incredibly uncomfortable without one. If you were to take them from him, he might not show his face in public.
Strangely enough, while I comment that he's vain, he thinks he looks relatively dull without all of the garnishing he calls clothes. Not to say he has bad self-esteem, not at all. He admires his appearance, but what could make it better than to top it off with ridiculous fashion statements? Will seeks to stand out in this manner because he likes attention, admiration, and all that comes with it, even if he may act aloof towards the concept. Being in the Elite Four has been quite the ride, since if there's anything people walk away with (other than his power), it's his appearance.
Yeah, if it's not obvious, Will seeks excitement. Lots of things are boring to him, even if he may not say it, especially if it's something the other person likes to do. We wouldn't want to offend them, now! (It's better to get on their good side rather than to tell them that they're a boring person.) When something interests Will, it's very, very obvious; he'll continue to poke, prod, and step all over the subject until he's satisfied with his answer. In fact, his methods of getting results may seem a little strange, since during times where he seeks answers, he may act bored of the subject just to get another person to speak up. Regardless, things get tedious after a while, and Will likes a little change here and there.
But not too much! Sudden change without warning puts him off.
Speaking of things that bother him, he's sort of a coddled and spoiled-acting individual. He can complain about things that don't measure up to his exquisite tastes or pout and want his way. He's a dynamic person, that Will.
Even though he's emotional, he's comes off as easygoing, which might make him pleasant company, especially because he's such an oddball. He's unpredictable and likes to keep it that way. He acts calm for the most part, but in a battle, sometimes his true colors show while he exclaims to his Pokémon and is affected by each and every turn of event.
tl;dr Will likes to put up a front to conceal his true self. Front: calm, confident, easygoing. True self: emotional, secretive, suspicious. He appears unpredictable. He has the tendency to lock away personal information and only let others scrape at the tip of the iceberg, which is largely submerged under the murkiest of oceans
★★★
IN CASE YOU LIKE MISCELLANEOUS FACTS, I HAVE A FEW BECAUSE I SURE DO. FEEL FREE TO IGNORE THEM. They are things I came up with that just added that extra kick to his personality and it made him feel more real for me.
★ I began explaining how Will's psychic ability works, but I will add a few more details to fully explain its limits. He has telekinesis, but it's only able to lift lightweight items, like Pokéballs. 12 lbs is the best guess of a weight limit, but... not sure.
★ Will only uses his telekinesis for showy things, really. Not when he's at the beach and trying to get a drink or anything like that, but to demonstrate what powers he has gained over his years of training with Psychic-type Pokémon. It would be more like... seeing his Pokéballs all levitating before him during battle. That sort of deal.
★ If there a food Will won't eat, it's eggs. He'll eat food with egg products, but not straight-up eggs. That means no breakfast with bacon and eggs, no deviled eggs, no scrambled eggs, no sunny-side-ups, no nothing. >B[
★ Speaking of Will's taste in food, he enjoys savory flavors that are strong and pungent. He mostly enjoys foods full of spice, but not the kinds that burn your mouth. He likes ones that have a bitter, full flavor.
★ In addition to this, Will enjoys heady, musky scents best.
★ Will's favorite color is purple most of the time, but sometimes it's red. Other times, it's more of a mulberry color, and sometimes, on a rare occasion, it's yellow.
★ Will is the furthest thing from a morning person. He has a difficult time retaining his composure during the morning hours (until 9:00 am for him, unless he wakes up late) and may look incredibly ruffled until he fully wakes up.
★ He tends to gesture a lot when he talks. He moves gracefully, but when he goes to pick things up or do certain tasks, his hand kind of rebounds dramatically. This quirk ceases on some occasions; for example, if he were being pursued by an angry mob, the rebound would vanish.
★ Will has the occasional bout of insomnia.
Sample I:
"You are trapped in a tree, surrounded by a massive swarm of angry Beedrill."
What a strange turn of events.
It seems I've gotten myself into a bit of trouble.
[video feed can definitely pick up the sound of Beedrills. Beedrills everywhere.]
Without my Pokémon, I doubt fighting back is the most intelligent path to pursue. However... I'm in a tight spot. The Beedrill are beyond furious. It can't be long before they attack. After all, I might have accidentally smacked one with a branch while navigating through the forest... haaah. Accidentally.
Well, I suppose the best I can do is see how this event plays out. Aggravating them further isn't the plan from this standpoint. Maybe, if I stay still for long enough, they will leave me... Wish me luck!
[end video feed.]
Sample II:
"You have been arrested for a crime you did not commit."
Was it because of the mask? It had happened so fast.
One of the rare occasions Will decided to step foot into the world outside of the league and he was being persecuted for it. What luck. You would think these ignorant fools called police officers would know who he was, especially considering that he wasn't far from the Pokémon League at all- just in Goldenrod. Was that far? That wasn't far.
He already tried reasoning with them at the scene. He had nothing to do with the heist that occurred three blocks down, he insisted, and it was mere coincidence that he and the true crook were both wearing masks. They wouldn't buy it. After that, they wouldn't hear him at all, binding his wrists in metal cuffs behind his back and thrusting him into the back of their car while responding to his insistences with "Yeah, keep it up. We'll see what the department has to say about that." The Psychic-type Elite Trainer felt humiliated.
Even though there wasn't a doubt in his mind that this was all a big mistake and he would be out of it as quickly as he got into it, he couldn't help his pounding heart or his legs that couldn't stop shaking. They had viciously taken his Pokéballs that held Xatu, Grumpig, Gardevoir and Bronzong, and that's what worried him most. As much as he wanted to exhaust his efforts on escaping, he knew that if he were to become hostile or evasive then there might be a case against him. Helplessly he sat, focusing his attention on the motion of the car so as to ease his worries.
