a day in the life

Apr 17, 2008 09:40

This morning I woke up at 3:00am and couldn't get back to sleep. Cash came up to keep me company and cuddle while I attempted to return to dreamland, but I felt wide awake.

The next thing I knew, it was 7:00am, the time I leave the house every day, and I was still in bed. Neither of the alarms on my phone had, apparently, gone off. Or I'd slept through them, or something.

Anyway, I figured the morning was made of doom. I took a quick shower, ate no breakfast, and kept having to run back upstairs for essential items like socks. I ended up heading out the door twenty minutes later than I usually do. I was certain I was going to miss the train and be horribly late, thus ending my stellar attendance record at Olson.

Fate, however, saw fit to smile upon me. As I was waiting impatiently at the intersection of Norfolk and East Hillsdale, the 250 bus drove past me. This is the bus that passes the train station on its way to the college. It was heading into Apartment Complexland, where it would make a little loop then come back my direction. The only stop where I could conceivably catch it was blocks behind me.

I broke into a sprint, dodging trash cans and car hoods. My iPod was playing some upbeat Motown song. It felt very Ferris Beuller. I caught the 250 with seconds to spare, and had to Bueller-sprint again, around school gardening tools and sprinkler sprays, on my way from the bus stop to the station.

I made my normal morning train.

And was in the office fifteen minutes early, as per usual.

It was very thrilling, and a good workout. I need to run more.
