final word count for day one: 1095
short for the day by: 572 words
1667 words a day is the general amount to shoot for. I feel good about what I've written, though. I can see it going places and doing things and becoming a real story, and this afternoon when I sat down to type something, anything, I had nothing in mind. My brain was blissfully blank. Last year, the first time I did NaNoWriMo, I suffered from overthinking the whole thing before I wrote a single word. This year, I decided not to give it a moment's thought until November 1, and I didn't.
Halloween at Cat and Kenneally's was so much fun. It followed the very simple formula of taking many good people and placing them in a house with food, drink, and movies on, which in this case were The Craft, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Something Wicked This Way Comes [which naturally I had nothing to do with]. I hardly saw a single person in costume while I was at work, so I was happy to see everybody looking so absolutely fantastic at the party.
Let's see, in addition to our lovely hosts,
unnamedfeeling/the Tenth Doctor and
chershey/the Madame du Pompadour, there were in attendance:
myself - angel/Sam Lowry
Amanda - Peter Pan
Jason/
streblo22 - 20's gangster
Adam/
lexigeek - ghost pirate
Karla/
klevermore - pink-coiffed lady
Melissa/
melissa-mifeng - disco Witch?
Tom/Dr. Noe - Beetlejuice
Kelly - goth faerie
Wendy/
here-be-dragons - Isis
her son Connor - Horus
Casey - Ann-Margret
Josh - himself
Sarah - herself
And oh dear, I can't remember Jack Sparrow's name, nor do I think I ever caught the name of his companion.
Anyway. It was a good night, a great time. And tonight will be great also, not only because tonight is the night of the Once More With Feeling singalong at the Parkway, but because tonight is the night Alan Tudyk is guest-starring on CSI. Truly, it is a red-letter day 'round the fandom.
And now it's November, which is a fine month. It's NaNo time, and there are no cons or large events of any sort this month, which gives us some time to relax before OMGFlan2.
Now I think I will curl up in bed with a book and the kitties.
[Before I leave the house to head to Oakland I am going to try and hit 4000 words. That alone will push me past what I wound up writing last year.]
