Doubtless there's those of you wondering what's up for this weekend and such. Well, thanks to unexpected and totally unlooked-for help, we've got the gas money (Alex and I are driving my car) for the trip to West Virginia to see my son graduate high school.

With any luck, it's also enough to cover food expenses or emergencies. I think it should be, especially with the price of gasoline having dropped. (Not by a lot, mind you, but I'll take the 10-20 cent savings per gallon, thanks. It adds up.)

I've got work today until noon, when ADAC closes for Memorial Weekend, and then I'm headed to SCAD to work like a fiend on my Studio II presentation boards and finishing touches on my construction documents. I need to get those finished as much as possible, because I'm not going to have a lot of time or ability to work on them this weekend, and they're due Monday. (I don't do well reading or doing other activities in a car other than sleeping, eating, or driving. I get motion-sickness, and I'm not normally prone to it.) At best I'll be able to work on lighting calculations for another project, and I'd really just like to be able to focus on time spent with my kids.

Alex has been approved to receive the maximum in unemployment benefits. It's not a lot of money, but it'll help. Our primary concern is covering rent, keeping a roof over our heads.

He's also been to a recruiting event for a company called Silverpop, and apparently did well there. A friend helped him with his resume, and was on hand at an opportune time to talk up/chime in honestly on Alex's skills. (Alex did some essential development work for Wandering Wifi, giving them a few tools that has made some essential processes a lot more efficient, and they're still using them. His friend was a coworker and attested to the usefulness of these programs.) They're looking to fill 100 positions, so between that and how well he interacted with the Silverpop people, he's got a good shot at getting a phone call, I think.

Next week is my last week for the quarter. I'm taking some classes over the summer and retaining my internship at Jerry Pair, so that's pretty much my plans for the summer. (Other than hoping to escape to the mountains to camp some weekend, because it's cheap and I need full-bore re-exposure to nature again. It's been too long.)
