Bread

Today's bread-making adventure was Graham Bread. It smells and tastes wonderful, but it didn't rise as much as I would have liked. My loaves are more the size of banana bread loves than sandwich loaves, and they are a bit dense.

I thought I followed the instructions, but maybe I didn't give it enough time. I thought it looked doubled, but maybe it wasn't. Either that I need to use a tad more yeast.

Also, I think if I make this bread again, I'm going to brush the tops with milk.

I also tried a new biscuit recipe this morning: Cream Biscuits from the Fanny Farmer cookbook. They had a nice flavour and texture, but I need to be careful about not patting them out too thin. I was trying to make them big enough for eggs for breakfast sandwiches, but still cut out the number of biscuits the recipe said it would make. That didn't quite work out.

It's been a baking weekend. Friday night Mel came over and she & I made 14 dozen cookies to pay Ramshaven's allies at the Florentine Masque event. It's a good thing my cookie-baking skills still far out-shine my bread-baking skills at this point :) Everybody loved the cookies ... especially black5sugars would took home the lion's share of the leftover chocolate chips.
