Oct 11, 2014 17:50

[This started out as a long rant at fandom, but I cut it down to the bare bones. Feel free to skip.] Note: If you want a story where all the babiez are brutally KILLED and everything is about the Doctor’s man!pain, go watch The Runaway Bride. Imma gonna watch the episode with all the awesome wimmins in charge. (No disrespect to RTD or Donna. Love them both.)With that out of the way - welcome to the meta cafe! :) This is long and rambly, you have ( Read more... )

:-) Well that realization only hit me whilst reading your meta, so YAY for mutual inspiration! \o/
That seems to happen a lot... :D

So...where do you think this is leading? I've just seen a screencap of Clara wielding the sonic screwdriver from next week's ep, so it looks like she's all set to continue evolving into the Doctor, as expected.

Reminds me of Rory, a bit - 'this isn't fair, you're turning me into you.' - Clara felt like that in Kill The Moon, I think,
Yes, definite echoes there. But far more so.

but now she's slipping into the dangerous territory where Ten and Rose ended up, of being addicted to the danger and heedless of the consequences...)Where's the Doctor going, to balance it out?
I wouldn't say Ten and Rose, no. They were silly and in love and rather heedless of other people. Twelve and Clara are prickly and co-exist with difficulty - she dislikes a lot of what he does and how he does it, yet she can also see the draw, even if she knows it's bad for her. (Mind you, I think the Doctor is probably still in love with her, which makes things awkward for him, because it's not mutual.)

I think I've already rambled at you about this, but it's relevant again so: the whole 'Just see me' thing from the end of Deep Breath, the way it takes Clara a pretty long time (and a phone call) to get used to seeing the Doctor as the Doctor, not as a weird, wrong, imitation of 'her' Doctor...it's kind of comeuppance for the way Eleven treated Clara for the first half of her run, isn't it?
Nice catch. Yes, very much so.

When Clara asks more or less the same thing, he tells her 'you are the only mystery worth solving', which, when you know what's going through his head at the time, is very different. Much colder.
Weeeeeell, she was asking about humanity, thinking that they were all nothing to him. So there are two sides to it.

He spends his time with her as Eleven learning to see her, and she has spent a lot of time with Twelve learning to see him. So much looking. Who did frown him that face?
And there are EYES EVERYWHERE!

And to your other comments that I ignore b/c epiphany:

The Doctor learned from The Ponds Who Waited (and the Woman who bides her time in Stormcage…) how to wait out the slow path. He has a bit of practise in The Power of Three, but then really takes it up a notch at Christmas.
I absolutely love this.

and I've no idea what the answer is going to be, but I do think it's interesting how it ties into Clara's previous arc with Eleven, especially in light of the 'Doctor Who Waited' thing.
Everything is connected. :)

ETA: ALSO I *loved* how much of this was all continued in Mummy on the Orient Express - from the symbolism (I assume you spotted the winged logo!) to Clara's evolution *into* the Doctor, and a million other little parallels. I really loved the episode, and there was so much meta there to pick apart.
Oh the continuity was glorious - especially the emotional continuity. <3

And I'm so glad for it! It's got to the stage lately where basically NONE of my RL friends are watching DW (apart from such_heights and a few completely non-fannish types, who watch it casually) and I get weirdly uncomfortable talking about the show with ANYONE apart from you and such_heights...I just want to keep loving this show and don't want anyone to harsh my squee with their negativity :-(

OMG that clip!! Ahahahahahaha. Wooow. Remember when we thought a shirt covered in eyes was meta hitting us over the head? THEY TOOK IT UP ANOTHER NOTCH.

I have no one to talk to in RL either... Well, the whole family watches it, but not at all to the depth I do. (Miss M and her friends created a whole AU based around Day of the Doctor, but she's not all that interested in the rest of the show. *g*) And oh, I hear you about the harshing.
