I have mixed feelings about this chapter and they all stem from my emotions rather than the excellent writing. You called the writing excellent, I forgive you everything! (Dear lord this one was a pain to write. I thought I'd never get through it...)
I don't like the fact Seeker dictated Allison's life to her, even if he was actually dictating his own. However, a part of me thinks this is just because I'm a ticked off little shipper who doesn't want to be Jossed. I think it will take time before I figure out the truth. They got screwed over by time - it's difficult. He is trying - maybe not very well, but *trying* - to somehow explain to her how it all works and why things have to be like they are. Have you seen The Girl in the Fireplace? It's very much like that. (Darn, I meant to include a reference to that, might sneak one in next chapter.)
As glad as I was to see Allison get a chance to see Mars, a part of me also sees that as some kind of distraction. It's like Seeker is going, here look it, look at all these swell things you get to do, pay no attention to the fact I've just crushed some of your dreams and made that crushing all about me. Well it IS about him. And the fact that he now knows that she didn't deliberately choose not to be with him. If not for accidentally stumbling into her life, he might still have had a chance. He got Jossed, and *he* is the grumpy shipper. And he is trying his damnedest to be fair and focus on the fact that she'll need something to cling to (hence taking her to Mars), but he's not happy, and he's just had his hearts trampled on again. (Also he's a bit of a control freak, he doesn't like being all helpless.)
I really enjoyed this chapter, and I'm looking forward to seeing how things end up. Thanks for taking us on such a fun trip so far. ♥ I was also going to say... Don't presume you know all the hows and whys. There's other things that are yet to be revealed.
