Yup, I saw that, and that is about what my brain is doing too. *g* I can't see the forest for the trees... it's disorienting!
Yes, "the Doctor revealing his name makes the universe blow up and the Silence are trying to prevent this" is pretty much what I was assuming, but I'm open to being convinced otherwise. I presume that there must be some sort of very specific circumstances that need fulfilling. I'm happy to wait and see.
Hadn't heard the theory that the s5 finale is a giant attack on River, but it makes sense. Mr I-want-to-blow-up-the-universe is very thorough...
Could it be that the entire thing is a self-fulfilling prophecy? The Silence are out to prevent the Doctor ever getting to Trenzalore to blow up the universe by speaking his name, but in so doing they drive him to Trenzalore and create the exact situation they're trying to avert. Oh I'm sure that's very much part of it! :)
What I'm not convinced of is the presence of Something Higher Up. Moffat really isn't into stories where the entire plot is down to the machinations of the Big Bad--he's more interested in processes gone awry and characters or quasi-intelligences who don't realize the harm they're doing. Well this is where Omega comes in... He's a delightful dark mirror. Plus, we've had a mention in Ring of Akhaten, and a proper mirror in Skeldak (take Skeldak, throw him into a parallel universe and let him believe he's been abandoned & go utterly crazy - only revenge left - and you have Omega). Mind you, Skeldak's story had a happy ending, and Hide was 'not a ghost story, but a love story' so I can very well see Moffat subverting what we got with the Master in S3 and Rassilon in EoT and let the outcome be rainbow sparkles for everyone... Quite probably due to Clara holding onto her humanity.

Also I am totally claiming that as another Omega shout-out.
