What the Thunder Said (Meta on the Doctor Falls and the Twelfth Doctor's era)

Alternative title: Why Moffat Who is Poetry

Welcome to the meta café! Although this time it's more The Poetry Café (not that there's ever much difference). What I mean is, this post is like a follow-up to The Hollow Men and will be formatted in a similar way: I.e. first up is the poem/imagery, which will then be followed by lengthy, complex and in ( Read more... )

So, have a word-vomit instead, I regret nothing.
I would have expected nothing else. :)

So worth the wait. You should know I went “oooh!!!” and cheered several times while reading this beautifully beatific beauty.
:D :D :D

(Also, thank you for the handy analysis of the poem since I have read it, but I’m a lazy/busy bastard who wouldn’t do research past the footnotes).
Thank Promethia. She's the expert!

Just…THIS. This. I want to copy all the pictures with the quotes and use them as screensavers because this is so amazing.
It is rather gorgeous, isn't it? I want to draw hearts around Moffat. ♥

And then you broke my hearts with poor, death seeker-ish Twelve (Pets the Floof). Capaldi killed it with that speech indeed. No wonder everybody’s posting it.
It's the most Doctor-y speech ever. Literally. If you want to know who he is, that speech is it.

1. HOW CAN WE REWARD YOU, YOU MUST BE REWARDED FOR THIS, FICS, ANALYSES, ART, VIDEOS, ANYTHING, JUST SAY IT.
Couple of more weeks holiday, a cleaner, a gardener.

“Nardole, while dressed as a monk, brings the Doctor River Song's diary. In many ways, that book is a bible for the Doctor-it's full of meaning for him and tells him how to go about right and wrong. It's even literally about someone who died to save him.”
Ah. Beautiful. ♥

if you just assume that poor Twelve is silently and repeatedly going "Oh, for the love of GOD!... Oh, fuck it" to himself throughout it.
LOL. (When we watch EoT my children sing 'Happy Death Day to You'. It nicely undermines Ten's epic angst.)

The music. The music, the music, the music, the music.
This is my favourite ever. That minute and a half. Missy/the Master's deaths, the Doctor dancing through the forest.

I had this idea for a fic
Oh that's been done! Not that specific one, but the idea. There's a vid (Tenth Doctor: The Musical) and I wrote a fic back when Eleven regenerated: Ponds Forever. I always meant to write more, but it didn't happen. Would love one about Twelve! <3 But as you say, of course he isn't dead yet...

12 looked so bloody exhausted throughout the finale.
In my 'proper' meta post, I will talk about how *OLD* he is. And it's throughout S10, really. He's frail in ways we aren't used to. And here, he's literally on the cusp of dying throughout, holding back his regeneration for two weeks.

this weird combination of Anti-Nihilism, What You Are In The Dark, and Earn Your Happy Ending that he does so well.
There is a perfect quote for this, which I have currently lost. I'll get back to you. (Also, the anti-RTD in that sense.)

In either case, thank you fellow follower, big fan btw, we should get T shirts.
LET'S!

Well, yes, if anything, this was rather short by my standards.

Thank Promethia. She's the expert!
I sometimes wonder how these conversations go, after an episode…

There ought to be a way to give packets of time as presents to your friends. Like, here’s 3 days, you can do whatever you like with them.

LOL. (When we watch EoT my children sing 'Happy Death Day to You'. It nicely undermines Ten's epic angst.)
I think my favourite, incredibly evil suggestion/weird coping mechanism is that one should sing “shot through the heart and you're to blame, (you give love a bad name…)” throughout World Enough And Time.

Oh that's been done! Not that specific one, but the idea.
Oh, you’ve shown me (and vice versa). Well, I didn’t mention it as something amazingly groundbreaking, bow before my inventiveness, puny humans. But it’s still something that I feel should be done -and would be quite nice too in my opinion.

He's frail in ways we aren't used to. And here, he's literally on the cusp of dying throughout, holding back his regeneration for two weeks.
(again, pets the majestic Floof)

There is a perfect quote for this, which I have currently lost. I'll get back to you.
If it’s the one where he describes his love for happy endings, I think I’ve seen it. But they are earned!!! I mean, come on, the whole point is that you *should* be begging the screen because everyone is so incredibly miserable first.
It’s just that, well, if you are -and one should be, I think- so incredibly demanding of your characters, virtue in extremis, we will be genuinely happy if you don’t kick them when they’re down and something good happens for once.

Oh, the usual: squee, incoherent gif usage, squaking of quotes we latched onto five years ago and have repeated like mantras ever since so that they now define entire complexes of ideas that we can no longer articulate in a coherent manner, demands that the other drop everything immediately and go read 17th century poetry. You know, normal fandom stuff.

Hello there!

Yes, I was a little surprised. But then, it's an odd meta/poetry hybrid, so not easy to write *about*.

I sometimes wonder how these conversations go, after an episode…
I think she has covered this. *g*

::cries:: TIME.

I think my favourite, incredibly evil suggestion/weird coping mechanism is that one should sing “shot through the heart and you're to blame, (you give love a bad name…)” throughout World Enough And Time.
I SAW THAT ONE! And yes. Brilliant and terrible.

But it’s still something that I feel should be done -and would be quite nice too in my opinion.
I would love to see what you would do with it. Especially since I failed so spectacularly to continue writing mine...

If it’s the one where he describes his love for happy endings, I think I’ve seen it.
I thought you might. And yes, they are most definitely earned!

It’s just that, well, if you are -and one should be, I think- so incredibly demanding of your characters, virtue in extremis, we will be genuinely happy if you don’t kick them when they’re down and something good happens for once.
This. ♥

Oh yes.

I would love to see what you would do with it.
Well, I’ve done many such things. This specific one would most likely be in a different vibe than usual, I’ll let you know. Probably not what immediately comes to mind -or what I can describe coherently.
And yes, do beat yourself over not writing enough stuff. (rolls eyes)

I thought you might.
Actually, *you* had showed it to me, I can copy it back to you if you want -if we are talking about the same quote, that is.

Hello, there.

So, I eventually wrote the thing. I hope Promethia sees it as well. I mean, I replied to her, but I really don't know how LJ works.
