I've been flip-flopping quite a bit on which 'playtime' project to create next. What I really want to make are recreations of Madeleline and Claudia's gowns from Interview with the Vampire (well, at least something inspired along those lines):
Unfortunately, I also want to do it properly in silk taffeta. Even with my suppliers decent prices, that would be at least $150-$200 per gown in fabric alone. Which would be fine under normal circumstances...I don't mind spending that kind of money on fabric.
And that in itself *is* the problem: I have never minded spending money on fabric. It's called addiction, and so far I haven't found any 12 step meetings for people who hoard fabric. Not that I'd go anyway. But as my Partner so aptly points out, it is quite foolish to go buy MORE fabric when I already have enough to open a boutique fabric store.
You think I joke. I do not. I'd post pictures of the piles of fabric bolts, but I know some of you are fabric addicts, too, and I don't want to find one of you breaking my windows in the middle of the night. ;-)
So a few days back I went through a small portion of my stash to see what would inspire me, speak to me, beg to be used. And the bolt of black Moire taffeta screamed the loudest. It is begging to be made into a Marie Antoinette gown. Now just to chose which contrast color for the underskirt/bodice/trim bits.
And make the proper panniers. Which is not my favorite task, but worth it.
I'm going to start it tomorrow, pics when it's done!
