Great read with slow smooth flow. Feels like the author really lives and feels with her characters. And she is not in a rush to fit all her thoughts in 100 pages, which gave a perfect opportunity for development. (Tessa)

I was hooked by the first few pages of this book, even though the subject matter is not something I willingly enjoy reading. How the author deals with slavery in a dystopian society of states in this book (over 460 pages long, but I, for one, didn't notice the length at all) is realistic, heart-wrenching, and painful. I cannot wait to read the rest of the books in the series! (Tame)

Her descriptions are on-the-money, her characters include a fascinating mixture of gender-fuck and megalomaniacal madness. Her world is described beautifully, and nothing is sketched-in that plays any sort of major part in the plotline. (Chuck)
I truly loved this book! It had dystopian society, fantasy, romance, realism, flawed heroes, and people who were evilly heroic and heroically evil. (Tame)

I found this to be a thrilling book. The world-building is very solid, the main characters develop along an arc that obviously began in the first book, reaching an apparent conclusion here, and the writing is wonderful. (Gene)
A slow start to this book for me, but the pace picked up about a 1/3 of the way into the book and I was hooked. I wish I had read the first book in order to be a little more oriented. (Tame)
Excellent world building in a fast-paced, action adventure. I was a bit lost in reading this. It was a little like opening a book to the middle and starting my reading there. (Stacey)
