Farewell to Charles Devoe (1982 - December 17, 2010)

Dec 20, 2010 19:38

Charles Devoe was one of the first model I showcased in my Man Candy serial. On December 17 V Magazine reported that Charles Devoe has died. They wrote: “It shocks and deeply saddens us to hear of the sudden and tragic passing of Soul Artist Management model Charles Devoe. We always considered Charles to be a part of the V family. Our thoughts go out to all of his friends and family during this time.”

The next day, the New York Daily News reported that Devoe died after being in a coma for a month following a surfing accident in the Rockaways. The Daily News writes, "FDNY divers had to cut Devoe free after his ankle tether became snagged on a wooden pole. He was in the water for several minutes before he could be rescued." He was 28 years old.

A representative for Major Model Management has confirmed Devoe's passing but had no comment beyond that.

Charles Devoe had modeled for Anne Klein, Abercrombie, Buffalo Jeans and V, and has been shot by the likes of Mario Testino and Bruce Weber.

Devoe hailed from Philadelphia, and his parents spent much of the last month by his side at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, said Eddie Roth, the superintendent at Devoe's Astoria apartment. At first it appeared he might pull through, but his condition recently took a turn for the worse. "They were encouraging. His brain swelling had gone down. His lungs and kidneys were responding. He was responding to them," Roth said he was told by the model's parents. "It's a shame. Everyone loved him around here," he said. Neighbors referred to Devoe as "Tom Brady of Astoria," for his marquee good looks. "He never talked about his job. But he had that look, like he was a model or in pictures," said neighbor, Willie Diaz.

Here is my post, dating back at Jun. 1st, 2009. I didn't edit it.
