The Tortured Artist

Okay, maybe not tortured so much as tormented. I finished my coveted hippogryph scroll, which turned out beautifully and have moved on to a different scroll. It's got a lot of leaves and vines. I went with a background of screaming and sparkly gold, gauche not the real gold leaf. I wanted a strong contrasting color, something striking, something not green!

I showed the scroll to my roommate and after some back and forth I found a theme: Mardi Gras! Gold, purple and green. Here's the first bits of it being done.

And I really didn't the usual shading. I'm trying to expand out and try different techniques. So, I experimented with a few things and finally settled on this: LINES!

I need to go back over some areas a bit more and make sure that the lines are showing up stronger. However, I like it! It also makes the purple not look like dark blobs. It's just a lot of detail work, but I'm liking it a lot.

And yes, I realize that I forgot to paint one itty bitty little area gold.

I need to figure out what I to put in the area around the capital. The color will have to be lighter because of how dark the R is, but I thinking about something checkered to keep with the Mardi Gras theme.

Calligraphy has been kind of sidelined. Not because I don't enjoy it, but because I haven't busted out my stuff. I should look up some text online and practice. I have a goal! Actually, I've got a couple of goals for my scribble arts for the next year.

1. Callig a scroll.
2. Gold leaf a scroll.
3. Do a reproduction of a period scroll.
4. Make a scroll all by myself.

Pretty much in the order.
