the sun rises in Gaza
the red is almost gone
the constant never ending humming of airplane engines
a rooster cries once, twice
the sky is gray
two birds chase each other towards the sun and back
the whiteness of the buildings comes out
i see almost no movement in the streets, no cars, no people
a lonely drum of a machine gun
and, all of a sudden, when I am lulled by the stillness of the picture
kaboom! somewhere very near
and then another and another
the spell is broken
the roosters again crow near and far
the plume of smoke rises
