Ok, we all know I love office supplies. It's no secret that I could spend an hour in Office Depot looking at pens, pencils, paper, and even adding machines. A new pen makes me want to see it flow across an empty sheet of paper, even if i have nothing significant to write. A blank piece of paper, be it thick hotel stationary, a legal pad, or even notebook paper have the same effect. If anyone really wants to know the secret of why I take such detailed notes during lectures, it is because it pleases me so to see my pen run across the page and fill it with neat, organized words. Why do I hate activities in class so much, as opposed to lecture? There are many reasons, but not the least of which is that there are no notes to take in an activity, and I just don't learn the same without them.
Folders are another passion of mine. I sat in the bookstore for probably 20 minutes yesterday, looking at all the different types of folders and portfolios. I tried very hard to justfify purchasing the multicolored accordian folder (sidenote: I have also always loved accordians, in kindergarten when we would sit in a big circle and pretend to play instruments, i ALWAYS chose accordian.) or the brown plastic folder with the metal folding arms inside (what is it for? i am not sure. but if i had one i could figure it out...). After I persuaded myself that I had no immediate use for these things, I moved on over to the single folders with the pockets. They come in so many different colors, and some even have the little folder clips that keep your notebook paper inside. Those I could really use...but then I realized that I hadn't been to the magazine section yet, so I pulled myself away from the folders. Because if there's anything that could keep me from buying a folder I don't really need, it's the potential to buy another issue of Harper's Bazaar. (Incidentally, I have also always loved a good magazine. There is a deep reason why I will not throw away a single issue of Vogue, which I have collected since the sixth grade. I love the catalouges of images, colors, people, and words. Magazines are an efficiently all-encompassing ode to my adoration for paper and ink.)
Anyways, what I'm trying to say is simple. Today, when I went in the little kitchen that is housed here in the Graduate Outreach Programs office (of course I'm at work, where else do I have time to write long-winded pieces about paper?) I went there to cook my Healthy Choice meal because I finally broke down and decided it made more sense than to have cheeze its from the vending machine for lunch again (although, due to the tiny portion size deemed 'healthy' by the Healthy Choice people, i am still about as hungry as i would have been had i opted for the cheeze its.) Anywho, what did i find in the kitchen but a treasure trove of office supplies. Legal pads in pink and lavender, post-it notes in every color of the rainbow, paperclips in equally crayola hues, stamps and ink, and envelope openers. Would it be so bad to pilfer maybe just one legal pad? i'd better go to class before my longing gets the best of me.
