"I can't help but breathe in a deep breath of autumn air (I'm sitting somewhat close to a door)... and say to myself, softly, War Eagle. The lull of school drags onward, however, the spirit of Auburn is electric. Call me ugly, but the people of this town here are like a big family ... even the black girl across from me is nodding in agreement. A brotherly love is in the air. Maybe I just had an extra special bowl of Cocoa puffs this morning, but tell me you can feel it too." - my friend, brad
this fallishness is inspiring the masses to break out their joy and let it be known. we here at auburn give a lot of credit to this great institution of higher learning, deservedly, but some of the credit also must go to the one who created us. he fills us up, with life, with breath, with love, and causes us to overflow. that's the point of it, anyways. when you are feeling as good as these blue skies and breezes have been inspiring us to feel lately, he sees your smile, smiles back, and then gently points to someone else and whispers "go show them." this love, as maroon 5 says, has taken its toll, but that toll is merely giving up a part of your love to someone. so don't hesitate. smile at strangers, wink at them (i personally get a huge kick out of a stranger's wink), give your friends a hug, and go sit outside in the sunshine, because this is the day that the Lord has made and by all means, let us rejoice and be glad in it. in response to a request for encouragement on a long day, a sorority sister of mine wrote "the joy of the Lord is your strength!" think about that. we are inherently weak, and we figure that out while frustrations mount as soon as we try to do it on our own. odd that letting it go is so hard, when things are so much easier once you let the bigger one handle them. cause he knew how he'd save me before i fell dead in the garden, and he knew this day long before he made me out of dirt (caedmon's call). if troubles aren't occupying space, that's all the more room for joy to fill up, and then watch your cup runneth over.
van morrison says "when it's not always raining, there'll be days like this..." post-ivan, i think the entire eastern seaboard can appreciate that literally, but when you're basking in the absolute light of his blessings, you can feel the figurative meaning deeply as well. the option to bask instead in self-doubt and pettiness is always there, but just the taste of those words on the tounge remind us that there's got to be something better.
"A purple sky to close the day
I wade the surf where dolphins play
The taste of salt, the dance of waves
And my soul wells up with hallelujahs
A lightning flash, my pounding heart
A breaching whale, a shooting star
Give testimony that you are
And my soul wells up with hallelujahs
Oh praise Him all His mighty works
There is no language where you can't be heard
Your song goes out to all the Earth
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah!
O cratered moon and sparrow's wings
O thunder's boom and Saturn's rings
Unveil our Father as you sing
And my soul wells up with hallelujahs
Oh praise Him all His mighty works
There is no language where you can't be heard
Your song goes out to all the Earth
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah!
The pulse of life within my wrist
A fallen snow, a rising mist
There is no higher praise than this
And my soul wells up
O my soul wells up
Yes my soul wells up with hallelujahs
Oh praise Him all His mighty works
There is no language where you can't be heard
Your song goes out to all the Earth
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah!
O hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah!"
